Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater
(hx) 03:16 PM CET - Jan,15 2003

Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater is the sequel to the World War II based & budget-priced tactical shooter Deadly Dozen. Needless to say the game plays very similarly to the original - if you didn't like it, this one probably won't float your boat, but if you did, then it will probably be your cup of blood (cough).. tea :) It moves the World War II action from Western Europe to the islands of the South Pacific - and even the very Northern Pacific. So once again you have to lead your squad (although you can select from twelve men, you will only ever have 4 in a mission) on missions from the Philippines to Okinawa. Each of the "Deadly Dozen" differs in eleven fixed attributes, ranging from infiltration to sniping aptitude.

Pacific Theater features 12 large single-player missions, most levels feature a drivable vehicle or two (scout cars, transport trucks, and tanks!), immersive environments (include dense jungles, natural caves, industrial docks, an airbase under attack, a beach landing /Tarawa/...), WWII vehicles, over twenty weapons and items (including Browning Automatic Rifle, M1 Carbine, Machete, Samurai Sword, Arisaka, Nambu, Flamethrower, and a Type 99 Light Machine gun), multiplayer via LAN/Internet (TCP/IP) - Deathmatch/Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Cooperative, and Mission Based - allow players to join games in progress and save multi-player sessions.

Although Pacific Theater plays pretty much like the first Deadly Dozen, the mission goals are pulled from a standard set of objectives, and it seems that you're always sent in to rescue somebody, assassinate somebody else, or blow something up, there is many more options during a mission, especially drivable vehicles, multiplayer modes (the original Deadly Dozen has no multiplayer option) and ability to play through the single-player levels cooperatively makes this game really enjoyable. Some missions are pretty good, such as the Tarawa level in which you start off on the beach with dead marines littering the beach, you have to drive tanks and kick'em ass :) Yeah, Pacific Theater is surprisingly good for a budget title and you get more bang for your buck than with many action games that sell for more than twice the price. I recommend this game to anyone who likes tactical shooters. You can also download this playable demo (169MB).

System Requirements
Minimum: Pentium II 450Mhz, 128MB RAM, Direct3D 8.0 compatible video card with 32MB VRAM, DirectSound 8.0 compatible sound card, 200MB Hard Drive Space, Windows 95/98/XP
Recommended: Pentium II 1Ghz, 256MB RAM, Direct3D 8.0 compatible video card with 64MB VRAM, DirectSound 8.0 compatible sound card with 3D sound acceleration
Multiplayer: Internet play (TCP/IP LAN/Internet) requires Internet connection and a 56 Kbps or faster modem. DSL/Cable or other high-speed Internet connection recommended.

snd: 4/5 - crisp, orchestral music score is excellent, there is enough jungle ambiance
gfx: 3/5 - decent, immersive environments (include dense jungles, natural caves, industrial docks, an airbase under attack, a beach landing /Tarawa/...), nice environmental effects, resolution up to 1600x1200/32bit, 1st/3rd person view, movement is a bit jerky, only one or two death animations, no cut-scenes - there are simple voice and text prompts between missions, few minor graphical glitches
playability: 4/5 - surprisingly good for a budget title ($30), 12 large single-player missions, most levels feature a drivable vehicle or two, multiplayer via LAN/Internet (TCP/IP), ability to play through the single-player levels cooperatively, pretty flawed pathfinding code
genre: WWII-based tactical 1st/3rd person shooter
release: November 2002
developer: nFusion
the game is similar to: Deadly Dozen
publisher: Infogrames
Overall: 75%

high score form gg, maybe i try it!

SpLASHerposted - Jan, 16 2003 - 20:22
This game deserves even more dredit than the reviewer gives it. It is a great game all around and offers many more features than full priced games. Don't let the budget thing scare you, I would of easily paid $50 for this game and been just as satisfied! Playing it co-op with a friend or two is a blast and multiplayer should get as much recognition as Medal Of Honor got, especially more than Spearhead! Get this game if you like tactical shooters, and even if you don't (it offers Arcade settings for those of you like myself who don't like dying after getting shot once!)

This game is OK but it runs slower than a 1-legged dog :( BTW I tried running on a P3 500, 128mb RAM, 32mb 3d card, which is more than the minimum requirements... but it still can't run properly, it's unplayable.

Come on, you cannot be kidding. This game plainly sucks. They better called it : Thirteen in a Dozen.

JGamerposted - Jan, 17 2003 - 08:36
well since im used to playing games such as ghost recon, medal of honor, soldier of fortune 2, i have this game is crap! I'm happy i paid 30 and not 50 like the good games or i would be pissed! I have plaid this game twice and the muli is ok i didnt mind that but other than that piss on it, they tryed to be like covert op's lmao, dont buy it, they really missed on this 1, later!

Now Im not a graphics whore, but the second screenshot is enough to put me off. It just screams amateurish. Ok so I am a graphics whore.

to JGamer:budget priced game, not overhypped but still lamed, scheisse.:(

I'm gonna buy it, out of all these user reviews I think SpLASHer makes the most sense as does amba$ador. I mean the age of the posts above mine are probably between the ages of 10-16 and obviously skip too much school. One guy actually tried to discredit the game with a system that is beyond the door-stopper age and criticizes the game cuz it's slow. No man, the thing that is slow is your brain. Get a job at McDonalds and upgrade your step-up from a Vic 20 machine and then try it again. You cheap bastard! BF is an overrated hunk of crap lag fest, MOH is a cheat infested non-supported game and SOF2 is a prediction mess that typifies all of Raven games. Thank god for that Gold patch that does nothing for SOF2 except add a few maps. Maybe if SOF2 didn't have such a stupid community the game could have stood a chance, but once you get all the Counter-Strike drop out's joining the game that just put it on course downhill. Heading to store to buy this now.

Gamerposted - Jan, 17 2003 - 20:21
bingbang, your probably the 16 year old and i suppose you wrote your post at school, I am 22 and you are lame for just now saying you are buying it, I bought it the day it came out, and it sux, so you are even dumber than i thought if you buy it after everyone including myself say's it sux, but whatever, i'm sure your parents are rich so enjoy!

Mysterioposted - Jan, 17 2003 - 20:43
stfu.. my name isn't bingbang moron, it's Mysterio... i buy my games homo. Mommy and dady don't buy me anything like u, Mr Analsextoy im buying the game, cuz i can be gauranteed nobody will cheat cuz it isn't CS or MOH or BF. so it's worth it and the graphics look good. so if you dont like that, eat me.

wondererposted - Jan, 18 2003 - 02:00
something's wrong with those screenshots. they are way to pale. the game looks much better than that.

SpLASHerposted - Jan, 18 2003 - 04:12
Mysterio- I hope you are enjoying the game and are happy you took my advice. As far as the other over critical feedbacks they are just talking nonsense. The game does exactly what it should, "ENTERTAIN". I really got into it and I, myself don't just play any game. I am a very avid collector of FPS and this game deserves to be recognized! I can't stand those over-realistic shooters like the Clancy games! What the hell is so fun about walking 10 miles across the map and getting shot ONCE and your dead! Besides that you have to sit out the rest of the round and just watch! Counterstrike is the same way I really can't stand those games. These kids giving the reviews know absolutely nothing about what makes a game 'fun' and quality! One more thing I have been running DDPT at 1600x1200 with everything turned up and it plays beautiful! The graphics are very comparable to other big game, big budget titles (I like them better than SOF2)... I can go on and on but the simple fact is Deadly Dozen 2 holds it's own and then some!!!

JGamerposted - Jan, 18 2003 - 06:02
well i guess us real gamers can make it across a map and manage to not get shot, realism is the key, not taking 500 rounds before you die, you kids like it too easy, i bet you guys play as recruits, u can knock ghost recon but name another game that has 2 add on's "desert seige and "island thunder" not to mention countless maps and mods to downloads, and baby boom boom you have showed us who the children of this post are by your childish name calling ex. "moron" "mr.analsextoy", or is that you jealous you cannot afford descent games?Clancy games are by far the best pc games ever, next time you play notice the DETAIL in how you see their breath in cold weather or hear the difference in footsteps from grass to concrete, or the graphics in wind storms, you all have your priorities out of whack, Deadly Dozen has none of tha.And when you refer to sitting the rest of the round out (multiplayer) why dont you cough up the extra 50 bucks a month get a cable connection and host your games, that way you can set it on infinite respawn **ding**, o well after all these forums r based on opinion right, and i wont be postin anything else I have better stuff to do than to argue on a forum about a lame ass game with a bunch of amateurs, later all

zeusposted - Jan, 18 2003 - 16:09
that game is a piece of crap and those who say it isnt, are probably people from some "street team" for the company who made that game, or just never played anything better, althought thats hard to believe with all the excelllent games out there.

Zackposted - Jan, 18 2003 - 18:44
I'm 31. I've played enough games to distinguish the good from the crap. This lame trash is even a shame for the wasted shelves which storekeepers have to pay for.

SpLASHerposted - Jan, 18 2003 - 19:17
I'm 31, own my own business have a model for a wife, 3 beautiful children, my own house, 5 computers networked for my own LAN parties that use a Broadband Cable connection, & 2 vehicles! I own every single action based FPS released in the past 4 years (regardless of the price)! My opinion means something. If you want reality watch CNN or better yet join the military.... there is a nice big REAL war against Iraq about to start... you big REAL GAMER you!

amba$adorposted - Jan, 18 2003 - 21:47
catch tha alkajda!dont send my friends from these boards to iraq, are u fuckin old bullshit or what??? dont say anything about your broadcast u sucker from us.

Splasher is Full ofposted - Jan, 20 2003 - 00:23
is this forum to talk about deadly dozen or to lie to everyone on the net about how much shit we wish we had **cough** splasher **cough** you lame piece of shit, your 31 get off your ass playing deadly dozen and take care of your kids, or even better, go bang that "model" wife of yours lol

Donald Loveposted - Jan, 20 2003 - 04:30
it's obvious some of these nerds out here are jealous of people who actually have 'lives'! i wouldn't let that last comment bother you, splash. all the power to you and keep on gamin'! btw: DD is a fine game!!

SlimJimposted - Jan, 20 2003 - 22:24
I bought it, I like it. You have to be a pretty big loser to come in here and trash a game or better yet argue with someone who thinks the game is good. But I guess it's all about penis size, and it looks like Zack has the smallest. The game has good graphics and decent gameplay and decent netcode. More than I can say for the bloatware games like BF. Crappiest netcode games of all time have to be: soldier of fortune 2 (shoot and guess) medal of honor aa (omg the worst netcode) BF1942 (lagfest of the world of games) And these games cost how much?? $70 CDN. LOL, nah I will take this "what you call crap" game and play with decent gfx, no cheats and good netcode. for the price you can't beat it.

The Cynic Who Barfsposted - Jan, 22 2003 - 06:24
Nice screenshots. Have you killed anyone lately? Why don't you take a course in English usage instead? Or would you indeed rather drink a cup of blood than tea? I like war games, but I don't like the glorification of war. How do you think that non-Americans might feel about your comments? I am American, but I don't like this arrogant state of mind, even though we won the war.

Nicholasposted - Apr, 10 2003 - 03:15
This is a good game especially in first person mode. If you like Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor/ MOH Spearhead and have finished them this game will give you some more levels. Loading times are horrible! You better leave the room and come back later while loading. Sometimes gameplay is choppy. C+-B compared to a MOH A+

Jack Danielsposted - Apr, 27 2003 - 20:44
I think it looks like a pretty good game, but not as good graphics as the Clancy games. If you dont like this game what hell r u in here for.

_posted - Jun, 02 2003 - 18:16
no hot chicks in it so i won't buy it.
