Platoon is tactical real-time strategy game based on the 1986 Oliver Stone movie. Yeah, it was a very good movie! Platoon didn't follow the movie, instead trying to bring back the feeling of the movie. In the game, you follow the career of newlywed Martin Lionsdale of the 1st Airborne Cavalry Division, and take part in the most thrilling moments of the conflict, controlling an entire platoon through missions based on historical events.

Platoon features squad-based gameplay, where you can command units or issue orders to specific soldiers in real-time, specialist soldiers (rifleman, sniper, scout, machine gunner, grenadier, engineer, medic, commando...), two types of vehicles you can control: M113 APC and M-48 Tank, 12 single-player missions and multiplayer mode with four maps.

Although the game does a good job of re-creating the jungles of Vietnam, I'm sad to say that it has disappointed me more then a little. Especially the AI in Platoon is very poor. Why in heavens name wouldn't a soldier open fire on enemies approaching? If the platoon sarge told them not to it would be understandable. Sadly there is much more frustrating details: missions are very difficult (too many enemies) but you can't save game, so you'll have to go back to the beginning and do it all over again, missions are completely scripted, there's no micromanagement, soldiers can't develop their skills, etc.

I strongly recommend you to download this official patch + some unofficial mods ( -=Conflict In Nam=-, -=|Bia| Patch/Mod=- and -=|Bia| Sound Mod=-) to make Platoon much more enjoyable. The mods make the Platoon game more realistic and better, also add a lot of things like new sounds, new music, some textures and more realistic scripts.
