Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
(hx) 04:10 PM CET - Nov,06 2002

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 is arcade-style driving game, the sequel to the most highly acclaimed racing games of all time. I have no doubt that some gamers will like this new NFS, but I'm afraid that most gamers will be rather disappointed. Now I will try to explain why. You probably noticed that Electronic Arts has released three versions of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit II simultaneously for PS2, Xbox and GameCube. Of course there's nothing wrong with console versions, but look what exactly EA did. While Black Box developed pretty satisfying version of NFSHP2 for the PS2, the versions for Xbox and GameCube has been developed by EA Seattle (completely different company) and these versions are noticeably depleted in terms of control, graphics, and sound. Okey, now guess which version EA ported for the PC? If you thought they ported the PS2 version, you are wrong. Unfortunately they have ported EA Settle version of NFSHP2. That doesn't mean that NFSHP2 for PC is crap, but it cobe much better game if they ported the primary PS2 version.

NFSHP2 features over 22 exclusive and exotic cars (Aston Martin Vanquish, BMW M5, BMW Z8, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper GTS, Ferrari F50, Ford Mustang Cobra, Ford TS-50, Ferrari 360 Spider, HSV Coupe GTS, Jaguar XKR, Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0, Lamborghini Murciélago, Lotus Elise, McLaren F1 LM, Mercedes CL55, Mercedes CLK-GTR, Opel Speedster, Porsche 911 Turbo, Porsche Carrera GT, Vauxhall VX220), 12 tracks (four track variations, including mirrored, reversed, and mirrored-reversed - overall 48 variations), wide variety of modes including Hot Pursuit (a branching tree path of racing events), Single Challenge (allows you to choose a track, car, and opponents), Quick Race, Championship (single player event, but without the thrill of the police chase), Lap Knockout, Tournament, Free Run, Be The Cop (to track down and bust computer speeders) and Multiplayer (up to eight-players via LAN and Internet).

Overall, NFSHP2 for the PC is not the best version of this really great game, but it still looks and plays pretty good for a console conversion. Don't expect realistic driving simulator from this game, this is pure arcade game, even more arcade than the previous installments which were in my opinion only half arcade or half simulation. I strongly recommend you to play through own private LAN or Internet with some friends, because it's the best part of NFSHP2. It's definitely fun, needless to say this option will offer tons of replay value. Try this demo (92MB) to see if this game is worth buying.

System requirements:
Minimum: Intel Pentium III (or compatible) CPU running at 450Mhz or higher, 16MB DirectX 8.1 compatible video card using a supported chipset (NVidia GeForce, ATI Radeon, Matrox Parhelia, TNT2), 128MB of RAM, DirectX compatible sound card, 1.2GB of HD space, 56kbps modem (for internet play), Network card for broadband or LAN play
Recommended: Intel Pentium III (or compatible) CPU running at 800 MHz or higher, 32 MB DirectX 8.1 compatible video card, 128 MB RAM or Higher, 1.2 GB available hard drive space, DirectX compatible sound card, DSL / Cable modem (for internet play), Network card for broadband or LAN play.

snd: 4/5 - pretty good, the soundtrack is quite good (Bush and Rush, Uncle Kracker, Hot Action Cop) - there isn't a radio button, so the mix is random, well done sound effects (roaring engines, tires screeching, police sirens...), though engines don't sound realistic enough - they should have added some boom and deep growl to the engine
gfx: 4/5 - quite impressive, rich environments, cars are done superbly, some damage modeling, but it is only for show and doesn't affect driving, no dashboard view, replay view lacks the zooming and panning 360 degree view, limited to 1280x1024, the gamma isn't right either (despite of the "Brightness" option), the textures seem somewhat washed out
playability: 4/5 - huge tracks, 22 cars, easy to master, multiplayer rocks (up to 8 players via LAN/Inet), very aggressive cops AI (helicopter drops bombs on you - WTF... ), PC version is much more limited in comparison with PS2 version, lack of options, more tracks with different terrains, ice, desert would be nice, reaction of the control is too slow and there's no way to calibrate + needs a patch to make playing with a wheel fun like it was in the original hot pursuit
genre: arcade car racing
platform: PC, PS2, GC, Xbox
release: October 2002
developer: EA Seattle
publisher: Electronic Arts
Very_good
Overall: 73%

Does NOT support Sidewinder FF Wheel :(

DarkErazorposted - Nov, 06 2002 - 16:46
Which one is not supported under which OS? The gameport or the USB Version?

This game is disappointing, I was expecting much more, especially after the last NFS (Porsche Unleashed). I'd better get the latest Live for Speed demo, at www.liveforspeed.com it's a small racing game being developed by a small team, without funding (yet) but believe me, it's better than NFSHP2 or any other PC racing game in the market currently.

DaChosen1posted - Nov, 06 2002 - 17:38
no dashboard view, now it does't matter if you are in a 360 or a porsche turbo, you don't see the difference, and the most important thing, no dynamic replays, this sucks big time. Now you can see the console is taking over, bye PC games...No, I'm gonna take it back to the store and quickly install NFS 5 Porsche Unleashed. What a wast of money....

Game is ok , it rules in multiplayer but why the fuck didnt they have the cop mode in mp? .Also why would a helicoptor drop beer cans in the middle of the road then give up the chase saying going back for a refuel :|

BadBoy1980posted - Nov, 06 2002 - 18:29
dunno what your problem is guys, that game is great, and well ok the dashboard is missing tahts bad, but you see of course the difference if you take an external view, and the cars drive different. and sorry, i think hot pursuit 1 was totally shit, driving only porsche, how stupid was that, was totally dissapointed by that, but this game is again great, its goddamn fast, graphix are great, the music is awesome rock music, yeah it has a console touch, but actually, consoles have the best racing games, dont they? and whats with the person who is making commercials for live for speed, man are you a developer of the game or what thats cheap! and drop beer cans?!? you mean the fire bombs stuff to stop your car, well i would say cause the helicopter doesnt ahve a#ny fuel yet, you know a helicopter needs fuel, but after all thats an arcade game, no simulation, so if you care about such things, you are playing the wrong game anyway. as i said dunno waht the problem with the people here is, i like the game a lot, and all my friends who played it too, like it also, grab the demo and judge for yourself.

Renegadeposted - Nov, 06 2002 - 18:54
No rain or snow, static replays, no dashboard view, hellish cops and too easy. The only improvement are graphics. Even NFS1 had more options. Why not a Career mode? NFS IV is still the best, IMO. Rather disappointing, I've been expecting much more than this, after a 2 years break.

It's a kiddy game. Looks and Feels like a SEGA 16x thingy

Reviewerposted - Nov, 06 2002 - 20:29
the game only have good graphics, the gameplay is like an arcade machine, the engines sound is not so good.

Bulletposted - Nov, 06 2002 - 21:29
I think the game is fun to play and you see quiet good graphic and hear nice soundtrack.......its good and its not simulator....its just for fun....

CRUCiposted - Nov, 06 2002 - 21:46
yeah this game is quite disappointing. I'll stick with porshe unleashed until high stakes 2 comes out.

Danteposted - Nov, 06 2002 - 22:20
BadBoy1980 said: "and whats with the person who is making commercials for live for speed, man are you a developer of the game or what thats cheap!" LOL nope unfortunately I am not one of the devs, I don't have any link with this LFS game, I'm just a pc games fan trying to point at some *hope* for a decent car game for pc after this sad need for speed release. I'm with the majority here, yes Porsche Unleashed was much better for its time.

LeBowskiposted - Nov, 06 2002 - 23:30
this game is terrible for single player. To many things that are crap in this game to even bother to complain about. NFS4HS was enjoyable to play, this is just plain boring. 73% for this game is being to kind really.

I was devoted to the original Hot Pursuit, used to go to friends house all the time to play and compete with each other. When I bought this game I expected the same immersion. At first I was dismayed but later I realized, man this game RoCks! Sure EA took a lot of fluff out of it compared to the first one and car tuning and limitless colors and stuff, but, who cares!? the thing I like is the tracks are cool, the cars look amazing and the feel to me is close as hell to the original even without the engine tweaking. The cops and stuff are excellent and more challenging than the original and the re-playability is great. I'm still working on every gold in both Hot Pursuit and Championship. And I still do them over and over again until I do. If you want a cool graphics, nice net features and overall cool game. This is the one baby. And play your buddies online... i'm sure patches will expand the games online abilities. I can wait.

nojavinoposted - Nov, 07 2002 - 01:12
For me it is not acceptable that a racing game appears without force feedback support for Microsoft Sidewinder wheel (usb). This lack of support is incredible. The rest is fine, although the graphics (very similar to previous one in the series) does not justify the huge hardware requirements

brlaoiondposted - Nov, 07 2002 - 01:38
The Playstation 2 version of this game kicks the crap out of the PC version. But I enjoy the PC version anyways... Still one of the best racers for the PC. If you want to play games these days, get a console.

PC Games- ANFposted - Nov, 07 2002 - 02:30
With a Geforce 4 and 512 DDR The ps2 isnt better than a PC. The graphics and definitions are way better in Pc. (GTA3, silent Hill2, Metal Gear etc) The problem is that the developers sometimes are different in the ps2 and PC, thats why some games are better in one and worst in other, its easier to make games for consoles cause they are all identical . The ps2 has great games, bu the pc also, piooners of shooters and rpg and rts etc. I never saw Icewind Dale2 ou games alike in the ps2 that played decent. In the end it is the PC Games that make the gamming history. The problem is that a good PC isnt cheap compariyng with the consoles, but for the ones who happen to have a Awesome Tech-machine we dont feel the need for ps2 action games. let the consoles for the kids to play in the weekend, and give-me games with brain. The best PC compared to a PS2 , its like a Space Shuttle (PC) compared to a Ferrari (PS2) both are great but the shuttle goes much higher. I have both, if i had to choose one i would choose the Pc because is more versatily and in a PC you can still paly the PS2 games, so The future will always be in The PC thats what makes the gamming indrusty go on. Next big thing Splinter Cell and Deus Ex2.

NOTHINGposted - Nov, 07 2002 - 03:27
Enjoyed the first NFSHP and bought the game as soon as it came out. The demo for NFSHP2 seems nice, but I don't know about forking out the full price for the game.....maybe later. I just wish games like this would make a single start and finish as in Rally games, OR make a virtual city as in Driver or Midtown Madness where you can just about go anywhere. I've heard great things about GTA3, but haven't played it, so can't compare. Driver was fun cause you could go anywhere, but the pursuing cops were too aggressive.

magaposted - Nov, 07 2002 - 10:48
the game is too damn simple, no damage, no buying cars, no repair, no nothing...this is a clasic console game

Foniasposted - Nov, 07 2002 - 12:06
The most annoying thing is the lack of proper replays . Some people hate the lack of dashboard camera too. It`s not a console conversion though because it was developed seperately from the other versions .

ExSportposted - Nov, 07 2002 - 13:44
Wheel with FORCEFEEDBACK!! On the disk in directory of NFS HP2 is directory CONTROLLERS and here are 2 files. Change the name of your controller in both files, which you really have. For example in file is "Microsoft Sidewinder Forcefeedback Wheel (USB)".Change it!!How?When you have only wheel on gameport,no USB, delete " (USB)" extension, and it will function now!The name must be same as in game controllers(in control panel) :o))

Game is disappointing, I was expecting much more, especially after the last NFS. For such rather long time interval, they could make where better, than have made (Would be super). And have made - full shit. No split screen, no car damage, no nothing...

NFSposted - Nov, 07 2002 - 15:44
The game's features look like some lazy work. Look at the graphics setting preferences. 4 sliders only?!?! The chasecam simply sucks. I have to concentrate on the car while driving, instead of the road. Very disappointing.

the688posted - Nov, 07 2002 - 15:46
LOL! "One of the best racing games out there" - sheesh. This game might be fun if you're either 8 years old, drunk, or cant afford a wheel or stick. There's absolutely NO physics model - the old NFS-games were bad, but this is a *JOKE* - really - not a hint of realism or real car behaviour. I expected bad from the NFS series, but this is even worse than I feared. I can't really think of *any* car game with worse feel and physics. I don't care if the cars are "pretty" to look at - that doesn't make a game. EA, get a grip! This game should sell as a budget-game from the beginning. And yeah, try out LiveForSpeed Demo, or anything from Papyrus (Nascar 2002, GPL, whatever) or any of the F1-sims - they all outdo this game by miles. Like everyone else said - what happened to interiors (who drives in chaseview?!?), replays, anything! No features at all!?

Godposted - Nov, 07 2002 - 16:44
You know what's even more pathetic is the faggots who get in here and trash the game, played the demo, saw what the game had, go out and buy the game and then come and bitch on a review. Get a life you faggots. The game rocks, it's fun and the graphics rock. Who gives a shit if your forcefeeback doesn't work. Be a man and play with a keyboard. Oh mommy my steering wheel wont work. Wahhh, cry me a river. The game is 10x better than the old NFS fake-ola. If you don't like the game, sell it and go to hell. the game is reviewed decently everywhere and if you are looking for a decent simple racing game that you can play with 8 players online and play competitions in single player for a good long time.. This is the game, don't listen to the homosexuals here that would rather spend their times in the menu's than playing. It's a great game with less of the fluff the original had. There is also something called patches, ya patches, you know those things that fix bugs and add features. I guess when you are an impatient 10 year old hoping that steeringwheel mommy and daddy bought you doesn't work you begin to cry.. i laugh at you that your gay ass steering wheels don't work. Get some skill and use a keyboard you wusses. if you as me, I think you just like things that vibrate, so stick your hands in your pants and vibrate away!

I REALLY wanted to like this game. I read a bunch of reviews about what was wrong with the game, and not what was right. I bought it last night, going against my gut feelings, and it was a bad idea. I like DRIVING games. I still think the best game for drivers to date was NFS:PU. I don't care if they're all porsches. I can FEEl how each car drives differently. The controls are crisp, the sound is crisp, cars react in that perfect arcade/sim mix that lets us get away with the cool stuff, but not get too insane (usually). HP2 feels like I'm always driving on gravel. When I'm on gravel, it feels like I'm on snow. The cars aren't connected to the pavement in any kind of way to reward one for driving ability. Once you get up around the Mclarens, the cars are fun enough, seeming somewhat responsive. The earlier cars drive like boats. I guess that's long enough. I'd give the game a 65%. Kind of arbitrary, but that's about how fun it is. On-line play gets a 75% just cause it's always more fun to drive with other people.

POS Bought it, played it, broke the CD in many pieces and returned it to BestBuy. This is a 20 dollar freakin game. EA should be whip repeatedly for this floundering POS. I even read in the first review I saw that there was a dashboard and multiple camera angles in the replay, but no such thing exists. Don't know why this reviewer would print such flasehoods unless EA got to him. No FF steering, no dash, no cameras, no damage, no purchase. The steering is incremental like a console.. EA owes me one. EA gives us reasons to bootleg games, or at least NFSHS2 did. NFSHS2 wasn't even a good try. Pathetic, cop cars that can go from o-135 in less than 2 seconds, and always seem to go after you regardless of who they should have seen first. If I would have kept the game long enough I would have probably found out that when I'm in the cop car it doens't do 0-135 in less than 2 seconds. A game that cheats against the player is pathetic in all respects. It's like torture...that's why I broke it into tiny pieces, so no one else will be tortured with that particular CD. Unless your 12yrs old or just like unrealistic crappy ported console games don't buy this.

Hugo_PTposted - Nov, 08 2002 - 06:08
The game is an ordinary great arcade car game! Problem is it's a lousy Need for speed game... So, if you're looking for a nice car game (arcade mode) give it a try, if you want the game because it's the last Need for speed, then it's disppointing, it's the last and least. For any Need for speed Fan it brings nothing new, and it's too damn easy to win (but beating the 1:35 secs with Murciélago was really cool). I didn't try it in LAN mode, maybe it has some good points there. The game music is great to me, but there are those who will be disappointed here too, they could take good examples like GTA 3 where you have different types of music and choose the one you prefer like radio stations. The game is a great game but to be a great Need for speed it would have to fulfill the above requests...

get a life, oooo, its not reaaalistic. dont take the word realistic in your mouth, when you are talking about computer games! i dont think you drove ever in a ferrari F50, so how can you even dare to judge what is realistic, you dont have a clue, what that word means. this is a computer game, and if the gameplay gets better when a police car that is chasing you shoots with rockets, they will implement that too. if you are one of those freakish, i wanna drive in circles and see how good i can handle my "realistic" vehicle with my "realistic" wheel in my "realistic" environment, called my room, then play collin mcrae ralley, this game never intended to satisfy YOU.

And there was nothing wrong with Porsche Unleashed, it was dedicate to Porsche. You dont't like Porsche, try High Stakes (probably the best Need for Speed to the moment), that RIVA TNT2 sure worth the 50 something $ I paid...

@[email protected]: thanks for your commend, a voice of reason. I like the game much. Grafic is pretty cool, drivig is fun, i don´t have to play a fucking hour with the settings till i can start, sound is nice (music is great, a deeper sound with the engins wouldn´t hurt), no crash of the game till now, so it´s great. If i want to have a funrace without trouble and nice graphics, i play NFSHP.

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Love these loser who had full access to the demo and then go out and buy the game and come here to complain about afterwards because of their own stupidity of buying the game. Well unlike you, there are lots of us who enjoy the game, me especially. I play it nightly, I play it online and I compete on LAN at home. The game is great fun in my mind. Just you have to be a real god damn lamer to have bought the game without trying the demo first, or trying the demo, seeing what the game has and going to buy it despite what you saw in the demo. Can we say, LOOOOOSSSEEER. Don't cry here because you are a stupid retard with too much money and a big mouth. Nobody cares, go write your own review and do what you like. I like the game, and lots others will too. And ya, wheels are for pussies who can't handle using a keyboard. Nearly every race now I got gold, rarely lost online, even in laggy conditions.. NFS rocks. You want a basic racer with most of the fluff taken out but with amazing graphics and gameplay. This is your game.

nehugeposted - Nov, 09 2002 - 00:04
Like a lot of people have said...it lacks MULTIPLE EXTERNAL CAMERA ANGLES IN REPLAY and you CANT PLAY BE THE COP MODE IN MULTIPLAYER. Aren't these two reasons the whole purpose? To not just race on a boring track with your friends, but to chase them as a cop or vice-versa with oncoming traffic? It's the same thing as games going away from cooperative in first person shooters. Why are they doing that? If I wanted to just race...I'd set the opponents to 'zero' and just race....the graphics and such do rock, but even if the game has the greatest graphics in the world...but it doesn't play well, what's the point? The dash look would be nice and forcefeedback wheel would be nice but I'd trade those anyday for replays and be the cop in multiplayer with traffic.

Is for the car's to crash . 6.The car chase's .How in the world does the police see you before you see them . 7.The graphic, The outside was good .Well done with the person in the car .And the busted part was cool. But the car's don't look really .Thy look fake.No dashbords.NfS highstakes has dashbords .That was very nice . 8.If I had to rate this game. I would rate it a 1 out of 10.The one thing that was good about the game was the graphic on the outside. That it.This game will probly end up on the dust shelf at a video game store .It's just like the NFS porsche game .The video game stores can't even get rid of that game .I saw that game for 5 buck a month ago and it is still there right now. That what go to happen to that game .It will sell good for a month or two.But it will end up on the clearence rack .Where it should belong right now .If I got the full version of this game. I would have someone burn me a version of the game .It not worth going to buy a game that everyone hates. 9.Someone said there is not that may tracks. If that so it is pritty sad .You guys keep digging you hole deeper and deeper .I think nfs 1 was better then this game and nfs 3 probly just as good .Nfs Highstakes .Blows NFS hp2 out of the water. It should not even be called NFS hp2 . More like NFS racing and you just throw in the police cars for the fun of it. 10.Thanks for NFS 1234.But the other's need alot of work

Well, the game caters to different tastes, but having played most of the NFS series and not realizing all the options and features that are missing as in previous versions....I guess EA is not getting my money now. Geez, I didn't think it was this bad as people are mentioning. Graphics in the demo looks great, but all the features really does make it sound disappointing. Maybe when it does go to the clearance rack for $10.00 Canadian, then I just may consider just for the hell of it.

NFSHS2 is WAY TOO BORING. No damage, very bad replay, no dashboard, roads are wide like airports, no need to use brakes, forcefeedback??? difference between the road and grass or dirt around the road???? Why was this game released for PC? Good old NFS 1-5!!! I want NFS 5 PU style of driving with a lot of different cars....

NFS HP2 is a stupid game ! The external camera angle is good only for admire the car, not for driving. U can't see the road ! It's the worst NFS !!!!!! We must flood EA's mailboxes with angry messages !!!!!! NFS 5 IS THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!

you can't judge a game by playing it for a day or whatever. to judge, you gotta finish the game first. how the fuck can you tell if the music or graphics is good? you look and hear? that's good for you. but it's not true. it's your motherfcuking opinion. if you want to judge a game, go fucking play the game until you fully understand what is it like. don't just come here and say this game sucks because you didn't like it or got bad graphics or music. (sorry for people who actually came up with specific reasons) also if you come here just to dis someone go somewhere else.

VERY DISSAPOINTING GAME, EVEN THE PS2 VERSION WHICH IS FAR BETTER THAN XBOX, GAMECUBE AND PC VERSION I STILL SPECTED MORE FROM EA, IF WE CONSIDER THE TIME THEY TOOK TO COME OUT WITH ANOTHER INSTALLMENT OF THE NFS SERIES, WE ARE BEING RIPPED OFF, COS THERES NOT A BIG DIFFERENCE FROM UNLEASHED TO NFS HOT PERSUIT 2, AGAIN, CONSIDERING TIME, I SPECTED A LOT MORE FEATURES, MORE DIFFERENT TRACKS, MORE CARS, AND I DEFFINITELY MISSED THE ABILITY TO CHANGE WEATHER AND TIME, IM A BIG FAN OF THE SERIES, BUT AS A FAN I DEMAND QUALITY, EA GET UR ASS TO WORK AND MAKE UP FOR THIS FRAUD.

Godammit!! Why are consoles taking over games!! It started happening about 10 years ago but it has gotten really bad in the last few years. Everytime I go into a sofware store I am usually the only one browsing the PC games section. Everyone else has planted themselves on the console side of the store as if computers didn't even exist! It's baffling. For the most part PC games and PC versions of games are better than the console versions. NFSHP2 is one exception to that. EA decided that the PS2 version would be the main version which is the best version and they just licensed the name of the game to other companies to produce watered down versions of it for Xbox Gamecube and PC. I don't know why EA didn't care about the quality of the other versions of the game besides the PS2 version. The PC now can output 20 times the resolution of a crappy 600 line Stereo Television, yet most gamers still chose to play consoles only, and consoles can only output at maximum about half the resolution to a VGA output monitor that a PC video card can. PC games also have better gameplay and storylines for the most part. Consoles are for whining lazy gamers that want everything handed to them on a platter. They don't wan't to tinker with settings and getting new drivers and patches to fix their games and make them play better. This doesn't make any sense. The purpose of playing games is to play them at their maximum output with rich detail, storylines and gameplay and has the best playing experience possible and savor your games, which can only be achieved on a PC. The only reason to buy the consoles is for exceptions like this one for NFSHP2 and for console only games like Halo for Xbox; GT3, FFX for PS2 and Super Mario Sunshine for Gamecube. Other than that, the PC versions will ultimately be better in all aspects, like for the other 5 Need For Speed games. All you lazy stuck up gamers that don't want to spend the time to setup their game and just want to buy a game, beat it as fast as possible the first week it is released and sell it back to the store they bought it from for the next game they will buy can all go to hell!!! That is not savoring the game. I have savored the previous 5 Need for Speed games and they were all good! By the way Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit was the best in the series with fast detailed graphics, great gameplay and a fun Hot pursuit mode. High Stakes was good but did not have as fast graphics. It did have a great selection of great supercars though. We can only hope that EA will release a killer Need for Speed 7 that will be the best in the series yet and have fast detailed graphics, good gameplay, a variety of gameplay and detail settings and a large selection of new Exotic Supercars to choose from. The series has been fast, fun arcade racing that wasn't meant to be realistic and that's why it has lasted so long. I hope the series will keep producing great games until it dies. Oh yeah and Santa Claus you uneducated arrogant moron, a keyboard was invented for typing letters, essays, reports and e-mails, not for gaming. Thats what gamepads and racing wheels are for! Great control for the best racing games!! Especially Sports Car GT, the best realistic simulation racing game of all time!! Period!

I think this game is great... true, its missing things from other versions that would have been nice, and its missing stuff the PS2 version had (which i think is better) but still... for the PC, this is one kick ass game. I play it for the internet multiplayer only pretty much. WITH THE KEYBOARD cause you dont NEED a wheel for this game... geez, wheels are the biggest waste of money... If I want to go drive with a wheel, I'd drive a real car.

I liked the game, cool graphics, cool cars, cool music. Ok, I agree it has it´s flaws (every game has), but I think the problem is that we all were wayting much more from the game. Ok, we played the demo, but there´s always that hope : I think the final version will be better, more complete.. things like that. Well, the game is a little bit heavy, I mean I have a thunderbird 1GHz 256 MB ram and a GE force 2-64 MB VRAM, so I think I can´t expect mutch from my machine since it´s quite old... Nevertheless, I enjoyed the game, it´s very uncomplicated. I missed the video configuration to try and improve the speed but, as I already said, my machine IS quite old... People, stop complaining about this or that, go play the game or uninstall it... Well, as you can notice by reading the comments, this is a hate or love game...

Flashposted - Nov, 15 2002 - 01:24
Damn! A GEforce 2 64MB ram? thats still a great video card, better than my decent Anhilator Geforce Pro card. The game should run fine with that card, that is if you didn't have a Thunderbird. Athalons and Thunderbirds are crappy junk processors. You don't save that much money by buying them instead of a Pentium. The Athalons just burn up and melt till you see smoke coming from out of your computer case even if you don't overclock it. Junk materials they are made of, junk workmanship. And 1- Playing any game with the keyboard after DOOM came out for PC is just stupid because I don't know if you've heard yet but come out with these new things called GAMEPADS that are specifically designed to be used for PC game playing and great for racing games, not keyboards which are used as I said before for typing letters and essays and e-mail! You're probably one of those ridiculous people that plays Formula One racing games with the keyboard and I'm sure you're real accurate with every turn hitting the apex and braking and accerating smoothly. Dumbass!! Get a Racing Wheel or a Gamepad for crying out loud!! A gamepad costs much, much less than the ridiculously high price of 40-50 bucks for NFSHP2.

This game is dissapointing especially following nfs porsche. it's boring when cops chase you and you don't get damage, too easy and not exciting. it's got shitty replay as well and i only can control the car with the ground camera view. i think it's about time i got a ps2 and use this pc for nudie pics

LOL. Very interisting comments. The reasons why consoles suck: * gay-arse graphics, worse on NTSC * no kb/mouse. (how can they even ATTEMPT releasing FPSers on them?) * No upgradeability * They try and compensate with a very mediocre DVD player, which u have to pay an excess for * no porn!!! ARGH! * but the main reason is you cant just go down to the rent-a-game place, pay $5 per game and burn them the same night. No more loosing $70 on some bustedarse game! I quite enjoyed NFS:HS2. The gameplays fun, more arcadey, some VERY nice cars, i like the tree-based system. I wouldnt cry over the Wheel support or any of the other missing features, as there is a patch in the works to address these problems. One thing i have always liked about NFS games was the stability, which does not get enough of a mention IMO. btw, if you want a fucking gaypad, get a fucking gaystation u wanker!

hehehe, funny discussion. First because we have a very rich man around... second, games are made to play with gamepads and/or simmilar... third because AMD rullez, kicks intell ass very hard ! if you ever had an AMD you would know what I´m talking about. fourth because I don´t think a game has got to have that much options to be played...

Flashposted - Nov, 19 2002 - 18:54
Dude! Fanto, have you not read any of the other reviews in this discussion? First of all as I said, AMD processors whether they be the Junk Athalons or the crappier Thunderbirds are made from Junk and ARE Junk. They either burn up your motherboard or they burn up themselves after only being used about 100 hours. You can tell when your processor is cooking when smoke emanates from inside your computer casing. AMD makes junk processors period, no arguments about it. Second, I will admit that releasing First Person Shoooter games on the new consoles is ridiculous. The graphics suck and so does the gameplay, the computer versions of the games are 10 times better. A gamepad is what games were meant to be controlled by thats why they are called GAMEpads. If you really want to use an archaic circuit baord with plastic square inputs and a rodent with a cord sticking out of it to control games, go right ahead, its retarded though, the keyboard was meant for typing papers and reports and letter and the mouse was meant to navigate Graphical User Interface Operating Systems not Games like Unreal. Anyways, does that mean you've never played Goldeneye or Perfect Dark before? 2 of the best First Person Shooter Games of all time? You couldnt use a stupid mouse and keyboard to play those games on N64 for good reason. The gamepad was a much better control choice and much more accurate. And yeah Playstaion and all the other consoles suck except for when there are console only games like Halo for Xbox, Super Mario Sunshine for Gamecube, GT3 and Final Fantasy X for PS2. Grand Theft Auto 3 is much better for the PC, on the PS2 version the frame rate slows down for some reason. Why do they praise the PS2 version of that game over the PC version when the framerate sucks for the PS2 version? Dont even tell me you use a keyboard and mouse for Grand Theft Auto 3 for PC, thats the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!! Intel Processors dont crash like AMD ones do either.

fermioposted - Nov, 19 2002 - 20:42
AMD rulez, try one and youll see. For all of you complaining about no car damage, try increasing the video detail from medium to high or highest. Pentium suckz big time ! HEHEHE

The game's not that good ... yea true but it ain't bad either ... hasnt lived up to its rep .. yea ... but who are we kiddin guys ... it was never meant to be better than Porsche. They cud've easily named it NFS 6 with some other crappy extention ... but they prefered to base the game on the original Hot Pursuit or NFS3. Reasons !!! well coz the response to the original Hot Pursuit was so amazing ... that they just had to get a sequel to it. Anyways the game play is decent. gfx are really good. they cud've added cam angles to the replay ... i think the replays suck big time ... Get ready for a super response from EA next time round .. coz the early reviews on NFS HP@ wud've really got their balls rite up their throats. Adios

True, you can see the damage but you cannot feel it. i could crash into a car head on at 300k's and the car looks stuffed with the bonnet flapping around and car smoking but i can't feel any difference in speed or control.

This game is pure crap, not because it's arcady, not because sound or graphic, I can overlook that. but the core gameplay is totally out of whack. it's essentially unplayable!!! The control is so unresponsive, there are few seconds delay and force feed back is constantly missing, framerate is not optimized, after each race, I have to quit it out and restart, otherwise, the game will slug down to a crawl. Overall, you feel like driving a boat, not a high speed car, so sluggish. whoever said this is best pc racing game is a fool. try rallisport, you will see the difference. this game is essentially much worse than older NFS games.

IDBarposted - Dec, 07 2002 - 05:09
I was expecting more about this game. I've a P4-1.4GHz 128M and NVidia GeForce2. It takes loooong time to load, but finally runs well. The game is too easy, there aren't so many surfaces to try like snow, but circuits are long enought. What happened with the car damage??? You can smash your car against a tunnel and still to win a race. I'm waiting for the MS Force Feedback Wheel USB support. Porsche Unleashed stays ahead!

Meposted - Dec, 22 2002 - 16:28
This game is shit with the keyboard. Steering Wheels rule and if you cant use it in a racing game then the racing game aint meant to be played. And AMD's rule. So FLASH, shut the fuck up.

Hot Pursuit (1) was´nt Porsche Unleashed, it Was Hot Pursuit, NFS III Hot Pursuit, NFS IV High stakes, NFS v Porsche Unleashed, NFS VI Hot Pursuit II, anyway this version sucks, no dashboard, no damage on cars, cars bumping all around like old Commodore 64 games, all is a big crap. I was a NFS fanatic until NFS VI Hot Pursuit II, it sucks.

NFS4 HS and Porsche are still the best. HP2 doesnt have weather, day/night, damage, career... It is rather easy to complete the game, cops are pretty dumb (especially the one in the helicopter; many times he hits another cop with the barrel). Multiplayer is fine, although, I would like to see the option for computer-driven oponents (if there are only 2 or 3 players on the server, it gets boring). Where are the cops in multiplayer? (I thought the game is called "hot pursuit"). The replay is useless without different camera angles. Conclusion: The graphics is fine, soud as well, but it is not as fun to play, as High Stakes (or Porsche Unleashed)
