Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 PC|
(hx) 02:49 PM CEST - Apr,20 2002
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (THPS3) for PC is straight port of the original PlayStation 2 version of Tony Hawk 3 and I can confirm that GearBox (Half-Life PS2 and Half-Life: Blue Shif PC makers) ported the game very well. While they keeped its incredible gameplay and imaginative level design from PS2, they enhanced the game to utilize current PC hardware. I still remember the horrible console ports a year ago, now some ported games beginning to look better and better and THPS3 is good example of that. Of course the game doesn't offer much new in comparison to the previous installment, but there are again a number of different types of tricks (flip/grab/lip/landing/grinds etc) which can be combined together. But it plays extremely fast-paced - alike a first-person shooter.
Needless to say that the core gameplay is incredibly fun but the main segment of the game is Career Mode. In this mode you choose a predefined skater - you can choose from the world's greatest skateboarders (you probably remember them from the first two games) including Tony Hawk, Chad Muska, Steve Caballero, Elissa Steamer, Jamie Thomas, Rodney Mullen, Eric Koston, Kareem Campbell, Andrew Reynolds, Rune Glifterg, Geoff Rowley and Bucky Lasek and Bam Margera. Then you select one of the eight levels which are new, improved, big, and pretty interactive. Alike to THPS2, each level has a number of different goals such as to find a secret tape which is usually hidden, score enough points, stop a car chase, or even getting airport tickets and delivering them to your skating pal. Since you will have only two minutes to try to complete as many goals as possible, it will be impossible at first :)
But you'll want to keep playing until you solve just one more goal. THPS3 features an enhanced video sequences, new user-friendly menu system, well-balanced scoring system, ability to customize a character, by selecting skin, clothes, glasses, beard etc, and support for up to 8 players via LAN/Internet with Trick Attack, Graffiti, Slap!, King of the Hill, Keep-Away + two brand new online multiplayer team-based modes - own the zone and capture the flag.
As expected, THPS3 offering 20 carefully selected tracks: The Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop, Red Hot Chili Peppers - Fight Like A Brave, KRS-One Hush, Motorhead - Ace of Spades, Rollins Band - What's the Matter Man, House of Pain - I'm A Swing It, Xzibit - Paparazzi, Ozomatli Cut - Chemist Suite, Alien Ant - Farm Wish, Redman - Let's Get Dirty, Del the Funky Homosapien - If You Must, AFI - The Boy Who Destroyed The World, Reverend Horton - Heat I Can't Surf, Adolescents - Amoeba, CKY - 96 Quite Bitter Beings, Zebrahead - Check, Guttermouth - I'm Destroying the World, Nextmen - Amongst Madness, Bodyjar - Not The Same, Mad Capsule Markets - Pulse. Simply, the previous Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 for PC wasn't bad, but THPS3 brings even more addictive gameplay and much better graphics and physics. This game is definitely worth having in your game collection.
snd: 5/5 - music fits 100%, well done sound effects - rails sound like rails, wood like wood
gfx: 4/5 -
very good, realistic textures and fluid animation, resolutions up to 1600 x 1200/32bit, enhanced video sequences, more realistic physics engine, no replay feature in PC version
playability: 5/5 -
extremely fast-paced, high replay value, support for up to 8 players via LAN/Internet (7 different options including two new team-based modes - own the zone and capture the flag), level editor, support for joysticks and gamepads, very few levels, some bugs but the first patch is already out

|There is a patch out there that enables the replay option, BUT, the author of the patch says that it is buggy.
I downloaded it and it does work.|

|This game is pretty mad if you like this sort of console crossover. The graphics and action are great, and there is a lot of good moves to pull off. I cant complain about doing a double kickflip 360 to Motorheads 'The Ace of spades, or Ramones 'Blitzkrieg Bop'. The music is clasic for you 80's punk rockers , like myself :)|

|theres (i think) 5-6 secret characters, including doom (they didnt have time to add a way to unlock him, you can get him by using hte cheats) the game is great in singleplayer, but its sooo much better in multi player especialy now that they fixed the in game browser :D|

|But where's the 2 player split screen mode... ps. works PERFECTLY with kiki convertor (allows dual shock controllers to be used on PC)|

|comment: have you noticed that the author of the screen shot almost always does a 180 ollie? weird... this doesn't really show the possibilities of the game ;)|
