The Moon Project|
(hx) 01:32 AM CEST - Apr,30 2001
The Moon Project represents the third installment in Topware's highly successful RTS series, which began back in 1998 with Earth 2050. The Moon Project runs parallel to the cataclysmic tale evinced in Earth 2150, also the story line remains pretty much the same. The Moon Project is, in many ways, the same game you played last year. The interface is the unchanged, most of the sounds and voice samples are identical, even the tutorials are the same as before. Consequently, The Moon Project looks to be more of an add-on than a sequel, fortunately, the original game is not required to play. Well, the game isn't exactly the same as previous title :) For example, each faction has not only distinctly different units, buildings and weapons, but also sports different methods of collecting resources and distributing power (the LC, for example, rely on solar power and giant batteries, while the UCS still uses dirty old fission reactors), all of which demand very different methods of gameplay and strategy. The Moon Project includes new extensive campaigns with lots of fresh, nail-biting missions, new structures and units, plenty of skirmish and multiplayer maps with the title, "Concrete Places"......fight exciting battles in well-known cities like "San Francisco", "Amsterdam", "Munich" and "Vienna". In addition there is also editor update - you now have a lot more structures, ruins and textures to choose from, and EarthC - the script language for designing your own individual story campaigns and editing unit values and behavior. The Moon Project offers the same great gameplay and graphics from Earth 2150. However the price $45 is too high for what is essentially a minor update of a very good game. Try the demo
(81.1MB) which contains one tutorial level, one single player mission and one multiplayer mission from the game.
snd: 4/5 - Very good, cool soundtrack
gfx: 4/5 -
Superb 3-D terrain engine, progressive real-time lighting/weather, excellently animated weapons-fire and fiery explosions
playability: 4/5 -
Excellent integration of strategic and tactical layers; intriguing mission structure; ability to research/build customizable units, stable multiplay up to 15 players, severely overcomplicated interface, kinda more of the same...
release: March 2001
