Europa Universalis is a historically accurate RTS game that recreates 300 years of history from the Age of Discovery in 1492 to Napoleon's rise to power in 1792. The major nations depicted as player countries in the grand campaign (1492-1792) are Spain, Portugal, France, England, Austria, Russia, Denmark-Norway, Sweden, The Ottoman Empire, and Poland-Lithuania. Each has its own particular advantages and disadvantages, and they all play very differently. Europa Universalis features over 60 nations from which to choose, over 700 provinces to conquer and exploit (there are an additional scenarios downloadable from the website),  150 historical events and special missions, balance between exploration and micromanagement, historically accurate unit graphics and detailed research on playable historical events. In addition the game can also be played with up to eight players via the Internet or an LAN. You can choose one of several different countries that are capable of taking part in the time period. Once you decide whom you wish to fight for, you are declared master over the empire. Your role is more along the lines of a prime minister who manipulates every facet of the nation from behind the scenes. Europa Universalis' gameplay is much different from most empire-building computer games, which are simply a continuous series of wars, and which are often initiated for the smallest of territorial prizes. Warfare in this game carries a heavy cost, both in money and in stability. Certainly there is far more to the game than can be adequately explained in this little mini-review, but I believe that gamers who likes this genre will be interested with  this unique blend of history and strategy.
