Submarine Titans is underwater real-time strategy developed by Ellipse Studios in Australia. Of course, as with all other games of this genre, ST includes real-time strategic combat, resource gathering and management, and research and technology trees. But unlike any other RTS game, ST don't take place on a strange alien planet, it take place underwater on the ocean floor. In 2047 the Clark Comet strikes the Earth and all life on the surface is wiped clean. Earth's few survivors are forced to escape beneath the ocean's waves and remain there. These survivors has rebuilt their civilisations in submerged installations. There exists three races, the military-loving White Sharks, the ecologically friendly Black Octopi and an alien race of creatures, the Silicons. The differences between the White Sharks and Black Octopi aren't as perspicuous as the differences between the races in Starcraft, but the third race , the Silicons seems to be a bit more different. Unlike most other RTS games, ST contains exremely large tech tree, there are plenty of technologies to play around with, this leads the way towards more intricate ways of attacking and defending. Technologies range from upgrades to submarine armor, weapons and movement as well as different defensive structures, upgrades and lots of weapons. There are 6 resources used in the game, the two human species needs Corium, Metal, Gold and Oxygen , the aliens-Silicons uses just Silicon, Corium and Energy. The game features around 36 submarines, 50 buildings and 110 technologies, over 30 types of weapon, including torpedoes, ultrasonic fields, mines and vacuum bombs. Although ST is set in the classic 2D isometric perspective, the graphically impressive terrain utilises 5 depth levels along a z-axis to create a 3D environment. People should appreciate that ST can run at 800x600, 1024x768 or 1280x1024 (even on 800x600 the units look well detailed), grants you three zoom levels and the map can be rotated to 4 different angles. ST isn't revolutionary, but contains some interesting improvements and additions to the gameplay and interface of traditional RTS games.
