How to Choose the Right CPU for 1080p Gaming: 14 Processors
Compared - Balance is the goal here. Intel's Core i7-8700K is
the first chip we think of when it comes to top-of-the-line for gaming
PCs. But it doesn't always lead in our benchmarks. It would
likely fare better with more heavily threaded titles tested

What this does not show is that old CPUs get the job does just as well - it would make it clear that you have no real need to upgrade.

Except there is no download button for any of them.
Probably you are better of without them anyway.

Great. Give me a handful of DX4-100 CPUs so I can play my old DOS games.

Yeah, MS wants to force a lot of things. And these will die off real nice.
Either naturally, or, by being forced by the EU.
My data, my choice. Fuck MS and Windows 10.

Of course it did. But it's not just some.

These guys would do anything to invade your privacy in order to steal and sell your data.
I would even take it further and say: this is being driven by the government agencies.
Jeez, let the guy rest in peace.

I'm surprised it's only four.

Auto-pilot on planes works because there are zero obstructions and only a very few vehicles contending. How many people have to die before people realize self-driving in cars won't work? You miss a firmware update and your car kill you or someone else... |

Yep, thanks!
Proves very well that Intel has not really done anything for the gamers since 2011. |

Neither did AMD. What's your point?
Hilbert summed it up pretty well in the end. For more performance in games - buy a better GPU. |

The point is that the "How to Choose the Right CPU for 1080p Gaming: 14 Processors Compared" is pointless. |

between an i5 2500K and i5 8600K there is a substantial difference in processing power. The additional 2 cores makes a difference. I have the real world example in my house. Also running apps like Photoshop and CAD is much faster with the newer CPU and it's evidently noticeable. The GPU however suffers when put in with the 2500K, so upgrading your GPU is not all you need. Of course it's also not as easy as just upgrading the CPU as it will require a new motherboard, thanks to Intel who keeps changing the fucking socket every time they output a CPU. |

i7 2600K is in the G3D article, not i5 2500. 2600 has 4 cores and 8 threads and can easily do 4.4GHz or 4.6GHz with a good air cooling. The topic is CPU for gaming, not CPU for a guy playing a graphics designer or a video montage expert.
So, in gaming, something like SB or IB is just FINE, IF you have a decent GPU and do not expect 200000 fps in stupid CS:Goo. |

I'm with you with all that, but I am not seeing any older CPUs in the benchmarks. (the graphs on the TomsHW link). |

that's great dipshit. And I'm saying a i5 2500K can easily do 1080p in games because I use one at home. Fraction of the cost of half those CPU's. An i5 2500k today, easily purchased on eBay, is way more affordable than the marketing (I mean) list of CPU's they compare. Tom's Hardware... Pfft. Nothing but a marketing site. Tom's Hardware = Sellout. |
