I don't think they are telling the truth. I don't think they have a single chip left for sale, and if they did - I am 99% sure they'd put it on the same low-ball underspeced board and sell it that way by now.
Now that people now of the corner cutting, I doubt they will sell cards if they don't change that design in the future, but I would go for Asus or MSI because fuck all other cheap bastards. Especially Gigashite.

Apparently ASUS TUF did it right, going beyond the bare minimum spec, not below.
