As noted by PC Gamer, a recent update to Blizzard's Acceptable Use Policy expands the legal rights that custom-game makers automatically assign to Blizzard (new language highlighted in bold; old language available on The Internet Archive).
Custom Games are and shall remain the sole and exclusive property of Blizzard

So, Blizzturd made it official: they think they own your arse.
Well, I stopped buying anything from these fucktards long ago.
No reason to buy anything from now on, either. |

The thing is we’ve never 'owned' a game for decades. Like you don’t even have a disk now just vapour ware. I’m surprised they have taken so long and others haven’t taken the same step. For example (SCS) ETS2 not taking ownership of Promods. I suppose if modders start selling and not making their own models, that would be a grey area. Not that I care for any of it |

Warcraft 3: "Your Work" Reforged. Reowned.
Is it worthwhile investing any time and stress to produce something for another entity, only to have the ownership of your work automatically revoked?
This is how the paranoid few take advantage of the creative many.
Awful, and a big FU to the people who pay for this shitty game. |

I mean with Unity and Unreal.. and other game engines and market places for said game engines... you'd have to be mad to want to be a modder or map maker for a game released by blizzard or any other company with similar mentally of ownership rights over your ideas, gameplay, art etc being created as a mod ontop of such a game...sure it is a hell of a lot easier to put gameplay ideas into effect when you don't have to write or hack together character controllers, design levels, get art work done, and the massive headache that is adding multiplayer support... but if this is what big companies think of modders now.
Besides blizzard were stupid to not have hired the origin dota modders and built a fully fledged game.. it wasn't like dota all stars wasn't a popular mod for wc3 back in the day.. just look at valve.. they practically built the steam-ing shit platform on the backs of what was essentially a mod for half life called counter strike.... if it wasn't for CS, no one would have fucking bothered with all of valve steam bullshit just to play a multiplayer game.. but the popularity of CS changed that and allowed them to peddle steam hard as a platform. |
