Sounds like it's fucked up.
20 years and nothing to show for.
Back to MW4 from Mektek.

I'll grab the CODEX release and see how bad it is.

Turns out there is no DRM on the game at all (no need for the CODEX release), just a simple check you can easily bypass.
So, copy the files from a friend and be done with it.
You won't be playing the game for too long, I promise.

Anyway. I'll capture things here as I go.
- No subtitles on intro movie.
- The controls you configured for the mechs are blatantly ignored when you are walking on your feet: you are stuck with stupid WSAD controls (and since it is not what you configured, you actually have to guess what key does what).
- Walking on your feet is turtle slow, takes forever to get around, even while "running", lol. Running seems to match a normal walking speed.
- The mech, which you have to wait for to pass at the beginning is slipping on the ground (as if it was on ice).
- You have to walk (crawl) all over a hangar in order to be lifted to the first mech and then, it is not even shown how the heck you get into the mech. Why do we go through all that nonsense to miss the actually interesting part? Why not start the game in the mech instead???
- Once you get through the stupid speech that cannot be skipped and you power up the mech (which, again, you see nothing of), you will have to realize that the mouse sensitivity is low and there is no way to increase it in the game options any further (1.0 is the cap). Means you either accept the stupid design and limited controls, or, you go and find some non-standard ways around it. If you can't control your mech properly - and having to lift my mouse thrice in order to do a ~270 degree turn is, in fact, a total lack of control - , there's no point playing this game. How could they miss basics like this??? I'll see if an INI edit can improve it. Did not find INI files -> no fix -> game is dead to people with wanting to use mouse.
- The on-screen instructions are hardcoded. E.g. "Press W to accelerate" even though I have that on another button. Even lame indie games do better than this.
- There is no way to skip the tutorial it seems. That's a big negative to me. Why'd you have people swallow 30 mins of nothing every time someone restarts the campaign? Been abused much and it's time to repay?
- Once you get to the firing range, you can fire your AC at buildings. You will see how fucked up that is: buildings don't actually collapse it seems, rather, they drop off a layer of rubbish. A real building would collapse under cannon fire at its feet. Once this layer of rubbish falls off, nothing happens, as if you were throwing snowballs at the building. So, physics are, well... non-existent.
- Water looks absolutely ridiculous at a distance and it did not get better as I got closer. And this is at maxed out graphics settings. Later on in the tutorial, when you look down the water, it does look okay (not great), so it might be an issue with the surface reflections.
- At some point into the training you will be attacked. The cutscenes will be showing mechs up close as they take damage. First off, the way they take damage looks ridiculous. When I think of the size and weight of these mechs and I consider the destructive power their weapons, I expect massive energy and forces be released on a hit. Here, we see a few puffs of smoke, a few pieces of garbage flying about and that's it. As if it was a staged destruction derby (where the goal is to spare the cars) or something. I expected heavy punches, heat and distortion effects, metal bending under punishment but none of that is there. Very disappointing. I thought they'd do better than BattleTech, but so far, BattleTech looks far better in comparison. Ever watched heavy weight boxers land a punch? You can feel those punches through the screen. MW5 is more like watching two paper toys bitch slapping each other.
- Once you are back on the ship, static models are standing around. They don't look at you (unless you walk up close to them) or do much of anything else than just standing around and breathing using a looped animation sequence. They look like zombies staring into nothing without sensing anything from the world around them. Reminds me of old RPGs where there was no sense of urgency - peeps waited for you in patiently to have a conversation, even during the end of the world. And yes, we are back to WSAD controls with crawling speed again(!).
- Remember what I said about tutorial messages being static? Well, there's this zombie woman standing and I'm supposed to be talking to her. When the "focus" is on the zombie woman, it says 'Enter', lol. I can tap 'Enter' until kingdom come because the controls I set are ignored. It's 'E' you retards!!! To really dot the i, you can't activate zombie woman unless you are standing in front, on the other side of the table, lol

At this point I gave up.
If you expect AAA quality, forget it.
Indie developers release far better stuff.
I can't imagine how disappointed people - especially mech fans - will be.
I'd expect mass refunds and boycotts for this game is a joke.

You know, these reviews you posted mentioned they can't recommend the game.
Well, I am recommending against it.
Steer clear of this pile of steaming crap!

Wait a few weeks, maybe they do some bugfixes, but considering how the training fight went, it felt more like a washed down FPS shooter with overly complicated controls - nothing like a mech sim. And if they could not get it right over the dev cycle, they surely won't get it right during the support cycle.
MW4Mercs is superior to this junk in every way.
MW6, please.
