How do you get to a billion from selling 5 million copies?
That would come to 200/copy. |

Because the game sold well retailers ordered more stock. As soon as the stock is odered it gets booked as income... net booking...
that does not mean that the money was payed or that the order will be fullfilled.
Broken down they claimed that they have orders for Boderlands 3 summing up to a billion. |

more stock of what? It's digital distro. I can't even buy it in my country for whatever reason. Actually, I can, for consoles only.
Also, the whole thing is over-hyped. Borderlands 2 key was on boxes of various GPUs because, well, a dollar is more than no-dollar. |

You do realize that they also sell physical copies right?
around 1.5 million in 5 days right?
And that all retailers that are not epic or take 2 who sell Digital must order the keys first? or buy retail copiers in a cheap country and sell digital to a rich country.
heck epic store probably has to order the digital keys first. |

there are no physical copies of borderland 3, I checked before i wrote my previous comment. I was 99% sure there are no physical copies even before I checked but unlike you, I checked just in case.
It's all digital keys.
But to the point of $1 billion + it's probably based on sales projection model based on sales so far. |

yes of course and these sales are not counted as digital because the retailer takes a cut and you must produce the physical box, wich costs them money of course, besides the time it takes for shipping to the retailer and then to the costumer.
on top of that big players like amazon might not even pay until they actually sold the stock. so the ordered copies they added to the "net" may never turn into money. |

You're still talking number of copies, and we know it's 5 million total.
How do you get to a billion from there? |

net booking is not only what has been sold but includes what has been ordered.
even if it in not produced yet and will take months to fill the order, or may never get paid for because retailers do not all pay for stock just for sold items.
so were not talking 5 million. 5 million are throu sales, costumers that have the game.
in booking they count everything that has been ordered even if it never gets sold. |

So, both claims are false (5 millions sold and made 1 billion).
Who feels like sueing them over releasing false news? |
