solely on fan demand. Also, I'm curious whether or not Valve will shut it down before the team is able to complete the game’s second episode.

They're both written in C++. Unity's main benefit is the asset store, along with its prototyping tools. It's a convenient development choice for small projects, which is why it is known as the "Indie Engine". It hasn't yet evolved into being an obvious choice for AAA development because it lacks large scale project management features, and also has poor animation support by comparison.
It's worth noting that Unreal Engine has been around for 20 years, whilst Unity has only been around for 13. Graphically, you could argue that it would come down to the art direction and how the engine is utilized. You can make both look as beautiful as each other, so no, it would not look even better in Unity. It would look the same.
In-terms of features and support, it is slowly catching up. |

What you said is true in general but there is more to looking good than just comparing screenshots.
Balancing visual effects vs. FPS plays a major role in end user experience.
- UE requires all bells and whistles to be turned on to look good and it requires a high end card to give you a good experience.
- Unity on the other hand is light, looks much better with fewer options turned on and it does comes with lower hardware requirements as well even if you turn all settings to the maximum.
Unfortunately, that's hard to prove because nobody releases the same game in two different engines.
So, what remains is your individual perception of similar games. |

I love conversations of non-game developers who side with one engine over the other. |

If you asked for specific details they'd have to go to google to find out. Then they'd have to google what the terms actually mean. |

Pretty much, why I don't even bother getting involved more. Seeing who's involved, it ain't worth my time. |
