 MechCommander 2 Preview - preview
(hx) 01:40 AM CEST - Jun,11 2001
Beta Bites has written their own preview, based on the author's impressions from a beta version of the game.
"What about combat, and getting all these kills? Well, it's easy. For the most part, the mechs fight without you having to dictate their every move. Just target an enemy for them, and the mechs under your command will move forward and backward to get the best range for the attack. They will even switch between weapons so that the best one is being used. I was quite impressed with this technique. Usually in command games like this one, units can only attack one way. The fact that MechCommander 2 included quite a bit of Mech AI was refreshing and fun to watch. However, if you have to protect a base or anything else, you can order the mechs to stand their ground. This introduces a new problem though. Short-range mechs work best against other short-range mechs. A long-range mech can be sliced and diced by short-range enemies if he doesn't have short-range backup. The same applies for a short-range mech against a distant long-range enemy. This is another element of that strategy that becomes so important in this game. :)"
