The monsters in the game range from simple attack dogs to ghouls to full fledged vampires of various types. Some of the monsters can only be killed by certain weapons. For instance, some vampires can only be taken out by stake. One type of vampire in particular can be killed with one stake while still in his coffin but it takes two of them to take out the same vampire if he manages to get out. A special "shadow vampire" made up only of black mist can be killed only by the blinding light of your handy crucifix. Other weapons like a cane sword, flintlock, revolver, machine gun, holy water, and more are found in the game and even your fists can be used to kill lesser monsters. The monster AI is rather limited to the "charge and attack" type found in most FPS.
