Chaps at HomeLAN
has written their
own preview of Farscape, the
upcoming third person action game from Red Lemon Studios and Simon and Schuster
Interactive that's based on the Scifi Channel TV series. The preview is based on
playing a beta version and includes three new screenshots. Here is a snip:
Red Lemon decided to create their own 3D engine for Farscape and they have done a somewhat surprising good job at it. The levels and art textures, especially on the alien planet, are very detailed and the lighting effects are also well done. (There are levels on board Moya as well). Red Lemon has populated the game with a diverse range of aliens to communicate with and of course not all of them are friendly. Not only do you have to deal with ground and air based monsters but you also deal with some not so fragrant flowers who try to kill Moya’s crew if they get too close. Of course you are not defenseless and you have a variety of weapons you can use, include familiar Farscape weapons like Crichton’s energy pistol (affectionately called Winona by Crichton in the TV series) and D'Argo’s Qualta Blade (a combo sword and laser rifle) along with a bunch of new weapons created for the game. If you kill a nasty alien monster you can actually pick up their remains and put them in a character’s inventory where you can actually sell the items for more useful things in an alien village on the planet. The camera control for the game allow for a full 360 degree movement around the central controlling character but does not allow for movement up or down, at least not in the beta we received.
