Mistmare Interview - interview

RPGVault
has posted an interview with Project Lead "TheHead" and Lead Programer
"Charon" from Arxel Tribe together with Lead Level Designer "Primvla"
and Character Developer "Mike5" from Sinister Systems, as this gang talk about Mistmare, a new 3D fantasy
" LithTech" powered RPG set in a contemporary version of Europe. Here is a
snip:
Jonric: What will make Mistmare stand out from all the other RPGs and hybrids in development? What kind of gamer will find it most appealing?
Charon: Since Mistmare uses its own RPG system which was never intended for table-top use, it is much more complex and specific (you'd need about 20 - 30 dice rolls per action), forcing the player to use intuition besides the calculating mind :). It is a system quite diverse from the rest of them, while still remaining similar enough for a RPG player to accept. Above all, it is almost completely integrated into the adventure/story part of the game, allowing the player to develop his character through actions and different branches of the story. The usual abstractions of RPGs like experience points and levels are absent, without decreasing the control the player has over character building.
The story and the setting of the game is, in my opinion, much more original and interesting than with most of contemporary CRPGs, adding some mystery, diplomacy, politics and even social relations to the usual hack and slash concept. Players who liked Ultima Underworld, Daggerfall, Betrayal at Krondor, Darklands, Final Fantasy and Wizardry, should, as I see it, find some appeal in Mistmare as well.
