 Evening Reading - briefly
(hx) 02:23 AM CET - Jan,18 2002
  • Warlords Battlecry II Preview - The first immediate impression are the graphics, in glorious 3D. The game is also very colorful - there is a richness to it that makes everything about it seem vibrant. This latest beta build actually allows resolutions up to 1600x1200 - I played in 1024x768 for the purposes of the preview.
  • Gorasul - The Legacy of the Dragon Review  - Yeah, Gorasul can be fun, but the twisted translation, buggy game engine, skimpy manual, and weak sound indicate a game not ready for prime time. JoWood had to know that when they put it on the shelf, and that's the ultimate disrespect.
  • Farscape Preview - GameSpot has posted a new preview of Red Lemon Studios' upcoming sci-fi show based action RPG, Farscape.
  • Worms Interview - CVG has posted an interview with Team 17's Martyn Brown about the past, present and future of the Worms.
  • Counter-Strike 1.4 Preview -  Had a chance to play with the 1.4 Beta, and it's got some pretty cool new additions so far. The bodies now STAY when shot for the duration of the round. Bunny hopping has been removed completly by causing a player to move really really slow when the jump continuously. At first every time you jump it made you slow/stagger for a sec, but Valve apparently has that fixed and will be upgrading it for us soon (not true, the fix was a laggy feeling. slow landing remains -rizzuh). Lastly, they have integrated the spec cam and 1st person view into the dead viewing options which is really cool, and have drastically FIXED the hitboxes to I'd say 95% accuracy now. (Still a small one by the head they are working on).
  • Star Wars Starfighter Gone Gold -  The PC version of LucasArts' space-combat action game Star Wars Starfighter has gone gold and will arrive in stores next week, according to a company representative. The game was first released last February on the Sony PlayStation 2, and a special edition of the game for the Microsoft Xbox was released in November.
  • RTCW To The Consoles - According to PlanetXbox, Return to Castle Wolfenstein is set to invade into the console arena (PS2/ Xbox).
  • Operation FlashPoint patch v1.42 - Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis site has been updated with a new patch and dedicated server for the tactical shooter by Bohemia Interactive. This release mainly addresses about a dozen bugs and also includes a few other minor improvements.
  • Betty Bad Offline Demo - Betty Bad is the most effective and sought-after bounty hunter in the galaxy. Armed with her powerful UniGun, Betty destroys all enemies in her path. Run, jump and crawl in any direction as you navigate through tunnels, over walls and around a multitude of obstacles. Advance through various levels of challenging action, as a quick trigger finger will prove to be your most valuable asset.
  • Medal of Honor: AA in stores next week - Electronic Arts today announced that when Medal of Honor: Allied Assault appears in stores next week, it will also mark the debut of a new standardized box size for games  The new industry packaging requires less space on retail shelves which allows for more inventory. It's also environmentally friendly.
  • ShadowBane Beta Testing Begun -  Ubi Soft sent over an announcement that Wolfpack's MMORPG ShadowBane has now begun its closed beta test.
  • 911 Game To Benefit EMS Workers - Fortunately for you, you're a virtual EMT. 911 Paramedic is the newest medical simulation game that puts you on the scene of more than 35 real-life emergency scenarios, including a stabbing, a domestic altercation and a head injury.
  • Official Might and Magic IX Teaser - There is a one page teaser for Might and Magic IX, along with three previously released screen shots.
  • Simon 3D Alive? - According to AdventureGamer the worldwide distribution rights to Simon 3D have been purchased and distributors and price points are currently being negotiated and will be announced at that time!
