A New Zealand developer has built Steam Headless, a free Docker container that turns any spare PC, server, or NAS into your personal cloud gaming machine.
It lets you run Steam (with Proton for Windows games), Heroic, Lutris, and EmuDeck, then stream your entire library to phones, laptops, tablets, or TVs via browser, Moonlight, or Steam Link - with **zero hourly caps**.
Unlike NVIDIA GeForce NOW (which charges $19.99/month and limits users to 100 hours starting January 2026), Steam Headless is completely free and runs on **your own hardware**.
The project, maintained almost single-handedly by Josh Sunnex, has earned over **3,177 stars** on GitHub and supports NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel GPUs.
It offers gamers full control over their owned games without subscriptions or usage restrictions.
