NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Rumored to Feature 24 GB of 21 Gbps GDDR6X Memory - tech

NVIDIA fans who have been speculating that green team’s next flagship gaming graphics card would feature a similar memory configuration as the current champion might be correct after all. Habitual leaker kopite7kimi has returned with some new rumors regarding the upcoming Lovelace-based GeForce RTX 40 Series, and they suggest that the GeForce RTX 4090 will feature 24 GB of 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory, just like the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. The GeForce RTX 4080 and GeForce RTX 4070 will also supposedly feature 16 GB and 12 GB of VRAM, respectively.

RTX 4080 will use AD103 chips, build with 16G GDDR6X, have a similar TGP to GA102.
RTX 4070 will use AD104 chips, build with 12G GDDR6, 300W.
Both of them haven't started testing yet, but soon do them.

The GeForce RTX 4090 reportedly rocks the AD102 die and is likely the flagship silicon for Nvidia’s next-generation lineup. The graphics card may arrive with 24GB of GDDR6X memory at 21 Gbps. That’s the same recipe Nvidia used for the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. Therefore, Nvidia may not push the memory limit for this generation, seemingly maxing out at 24GB as the chipmaker did on Ampere.

I'm happy with the RTX 3080 12 GB right now, especially with my undervolt keeping the Board Power Draw at 280 W during a session of Elden Ring in 4K. Temps only reach 65c full load on air.

I'm wondering what kind of impact this will have on the 4080, since I've read that stock may require up to 450 W. Also, I'm even more curious about improvements to Memory cooling since GDDR6 is already hot as fuck on the 30XX series. It's a pity because generally the RAM can be pushed in the region of 500-1500 MHz over stock frequencies.

You misunderstand. I'm talking specifically about the 40XX series power requirements, and wondering how the excessive requirements can be mitigated with an undervolt. I'm interested in comparing the power draw vs. performance between the two cards. If the new series is more efficient, I'll be interested. In any case, it will definitely cross my mind to upgrade, especially if the new series isn't polluted with scalper prices.

I always prefer to do that sooner rather than later so the previous gen doesn't lose too much value, but it will depend on how inflated the second hand market becomes once the 40XX cards are available to order. My gut is telling me that eBay is going to be flooded with affordable 3080's, but I hope that I am wrong.
