- ASUS announces the Padfone Mini convertible phone + tablet - As
widely anticipated, ASUS has announced the latest addition to its Padfone
line of convertible Android devices, the Padfone Mini. Like other
Padfone products, the Padfone Mini comes in two parts - a 4.3-inch
phone and a 7-inch tablet dock - meaning you can slot the former into
the latter. This lets you use a single data plan for both tablet and
phone mode, and charge the phone while it's docked in the tablet.
Unlike previous Padfones, the Padfone Mini is aimed squarely at the
mid-range market. It's got a quad-core 1.4GHz Snapdragon 400 CPU with
1GB of RAM and a qHD (960x540) display on the phone, which expands to
1280x800 on the tablet
- NVIDIA G-Sync Review - In pathological cases the impact
can be shocking, particularly if you're coming from a 60Hz panel today
(with or without v-sync). The smoothness afforded by G-Sync is just awesome.
I didn't even realize how much of the v-sync related stutter I had
simply come to accept. I'd frequently find a scene that stuttered a lot
with v-sync enabled and approach it fully expecting G-Sync to somehow
fail at smoothing things out this time. I always came away impressed.
G-Sync also lowered my minimum frame rate requirement to not be
distracted by stuttering. Dropping below 30 fps is still bothersome,
but in all of the games I tested as long as I could keep frame rates
north of 35 fps the overall experience was great.

- Steve Ballmer: Longhorn-Vista was the "single biggest mistake
I made" - Mary Jo Foley conducted what may be Steve
Ballmer's final press interview while he is still CEO of Microsoft in
late November. The major parts of that chat were posted today at CNN's
Fortune website but Foley has some expanded portions of her chat with
Ballmer on her ZDNet
column as well. In one of those columns, Ballmer expanded on his
own previously admitted regrets over the treatment of Longhorn, the
code name for the Windows XP successor that eventually was released as
Windows Vista in 2007. Ballmer is quoted again today about the
Longhorn-Vista efforts, saying, "That was the single biggest mistake I
- Windows Phone 9 will reportedly ditch Metro UI - Russian
blogger Eldar Murtazin, known for some of his accurate tips on the
mobile industry in the past, said on
Twitter that Windows Phone 9 will launch at some point in the
second half of 2014 (third or fourth quarter) without the iconic Metro
user interface that's currently present on all Windows Phone handsets
and Windows tablets. In several tweets that followed, he suggested that
the tiled Metro UI will still remain as an option to users. More
importantly, he said that Windows RT will cease to exist as a
standalone OS fork, as it will be incorporated in WP9, which will
become the "same system" for phones and tablets. A previous report said
that Microsoft sees Windows RT merging with Windows Phone by
It's unclear though whether Metro UI will also be removed from Windows
9, as Murtazin says there are a lot of internal debates on the matter
within Microsoft. The blogger also seems to suggest that Microsoft may
be inspired henceforward in Android rather than in iOS, and that the
WP9 experience may be developed on a “clean slate.” Murtazin, who was
also wrong with some of his predictions in the past, did not reveal
where he got his information.
- Start Menu Could Return to Windows in Spring 2014 -
Microsoft may be adding the Start Menu back to Windows because it wants
customers to upgrade from Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Microsoft doesn't want these specific customers to shy away because it
looks too unfamiliar. The Start Menu made its debut in Windows 95,
meaning customers have grown accustomed to launching the Start Menu to
access their programs and system tools for eighteen years. So when will
this new Start Menu make an appearance? That may happen during the Update 1 wave reportedly
coming in Spring 2014, as Microsoft may be wanting to address the issue
as soon as possible.
- Whoa! Analyst predicts that Microsoft and Apple will soon
merge - Enter Keith Fitz-Gerald, an analyst from Money Map Press,
who appeared on Fox
Business to share his predictions for two of the giants of the
industry, Microsoft and Apple. Fitz-Gerald believes that the conditions
of the market will force Microsoft and Apple into closer co-operation
and, eventually, a merger. "Well, here's the thing: this is one of
those unthinkable but absolutely possible deals," Fitz-Gerald began. "I
think that Apple and Microsoft may not only have to work together for
the next few years, but may even see a merger five to ten years from
now, because they're going to have to take on the Google
Android/Facebooks of the world." Well, we will see one day :-)

- Pirate Bay Docks in Peru: New System Will Make Domains - The
Pirate Bay was forced to switch domains earlier this week but today the
torrent site reached its final destination for now. A few moments ago
TPB landed in Peru with words of caution for its adversaries. Speaking
a Pirate Bay spokesman said a new system currently under development
will not only make domain names irrelevant, but will herald the arrival
of a new generation of hardened file-sharing services.
- The FBI can turn on your webcam without you knowing - It
seems that the FBI is also quite capable of hacking into your PC to
access your webcam and other information without you even knowing,
providing of course the malicious software is loaded onto the target
PC. Speaking to the
Washington Post, Marcus Thomas, the former assistant director of
the FBI's Operational Technology Division said they have been able to
do so "without triggering the light that lets users know it is
recording" for years now. Thomas also pointed out that the technology
is "mainly" used for terrorist operations or the "most serious" of
criminal investigations. The report cites an incident where the FBI
tracked a suspect called "Mo" who made a series of threats to detonate
bombs at universities and airports across the United States last year.
The FBI hacker team was able to create a piece of software that used
Yahoo Mail as the delivery method and was designed to log the sites he
visited, as well as the general whereabouts of the computer.
If you are truly concerned, just buy a $5 cover for it, they make them.

- Man Fined $183k For Joining Anonymous DDoS For One Minute - It's
pretty bad that Anonymous makes more headlines for the jail sentences,
probation, massive fines and snitching than any of the hacks the group
has attempted. Time for these guys to find a new hobby. A 38-year-old
man from the US state of Wisconsin has been sentenced
to two years of federal probation and will pay a $183,000 fine for
taking part in a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack organized
under the Anonymous hacktivist brand.

- Introducing Instagram Direct - Today at a press event in
New York, Instagram founder Kevin Systrom has announced
that the photo-sharing service is introducing private photo-sharing and
messaging. The feature is called Instagram Direct. Instagram has always
been a mostly public social network, with a broadcast structure instead
of connections based on mutual friendship, like Facebook. The
introduction of Instagram Direct marks a new phase for the company.
Now, users who follow each other will be able to send each other
private chat-like messages, which can include photos or videos (of
course). Previously, users have only been able to like or publicly
comment on pictures.
- Cover lock screen replacement launches in the Play Store - Cover,
a lock screen replacement that launched in private beta to much
interest back in October, has available today in the Play
Store. The app, which is currently available for free, hopes to
offer a more feature-rich lock screen on your device that adapts to
your habits and uses to offer you information and apps you want to see,
when you want to see them. The goal is similar to that of Aviate, but
for your lock screen rather than your home screen. As you can see in
the launch video above, the idea is quite interesting.

NVIDIA G-Sync Review
Repeating frames is the same things that gave us the 120Hz TVs.
Content meant to play at <30Hz looks fabulous on 120Hz, I have to agree.
But FPS games are not meant for <30Hz, those are more in the 50Hz<n<100Hz domain.
G-Sync might solve the problem of tearing only - if at all. G-Sync will never solve the low frame rate problem.
It seems to me like a gimmick to get a few dollars for every monitor sold with this junk. How about you (the monitor vendors) focus on decent 16:10 screens instead?
Steve Ballmer: Longhorn-Vista was the "single biggest mistake I made"
Before Windows 8.
Or, perhaps he did not have a say in Windows 8? But, in that case, whose fault was it?
Windows Phone 9 will reportedly ditch Metro UI
I knew that the desktop Windows was going to ditch it, but the phone?
What was the whole point of it then?
Start Menu Could Return to Windows in Spring 2014
I'm not a fan of the Start menu. It was utter junk when it was introduced in the first place. I use it only to shut down my PC when I am lazy to switch to desktop to hit ALT+F4.
Return? It has never left! You mean Windows 8? That's not even a Windows.
Whoa! Analyst predicts that Microsoft and Apple will soon merge
Let's see. The people who founded Apple are dead or out. Soon the same goes for Microsoft. If the market's right, it might happen as the old hatred is gone. Windows 8 seems to be a flashy pile of garbage - I feels almost like an Apple product - so I guess their products have already converged.
Does AppleOS have a Start menu? ;-)
Pirate Bay Docks in Peru: New System Will Make Domains
These guys still exists? Good job avoiding the greedy bastards!
What happened with those guys in Sweden?
The FBI can turn on your webcam without you knowing
The FBI might be able to do a lot of things, but turning on my webcam over the internet is not one of them, I can assure you - that would be called a miracle (as it has a manual hardware switch, just like my microphone).
I foresee a new market emerging with privacy filters for web cameras/microphones.
BTW, there's a reason why people buy Chinese routers and Russian firewalls for their US PCs.
Man Fined $183k For Joining Anonymous DDoS For One Minute
Apparently, he was not anonymous, lol.
Bitcoin hoax dupes Mac users into wiping their hard drives
I don't consider most Mac users competent persons, so I guess this proves my theory.

Controlling Physical Appliances With Google Glass
I'm still not sure why anyone would ever want a Google Glass (unless it contains real beer).

|"Or, perhaps he did not have a say in Windows 8? But, in that case, whose fault was it? "
hard to say, but sinovsky was around for vista, win7 and win8, though he was most vocal on the blog http://blogs.msdn.com/b/e7/ during the development of win7 as he was leading it, which compared to MS communication on vista and win8 is very telling. Looking back at it while I didn't like all the improvements in win7 they were actual improvements over vista in most areas, from explorer, specific applications etc. Compared to what was done from win7 to win8, every bit of progress in user customizability, visual enhancements, added features to programs, explorer search etc, taskbar improvements etc it was all just forgotten and thrown out the window, and only some minor exporer file copying, taskmanager etc stuff that was probably started during win7 development and never got finished so was pushed into the win8 release, I think the fact areo desktop theme looked like it got sent back to the 90's with that metro inspired square shit is just how much MS kindergarten design gave a shit about it.
Its like cluster fuck of retards thought it would be good to take a leading OS and just lobotomize it so OSX and linux start to look like good alternatives, with clear intentions of a shitty limited surface, mobile experience aimed at the fking mentally handicapped retards who need large fonts and big square buttons and really dUMBED down interfaces. While I'm sure most the development staff thought it was a great idea making something so incredibly shit, its really easy to make basic looking metro craps.
And after Win7 release everything went quiet, so I guess compared to vista and win8, sinovsky was involved during the better OS release he also resigned last year, and those shitheads at MS made 8.1 after his exit, with zero intention of fixing anything, so I don't hold him responsible for win8 retardation and doubt he was involved much with windows Vista either.
The Metrolized garbage seems like it was inspired and pushed by most the lower level fuckwits at MS, with no clear leadership or care for customers who really wanted an improved OS. So its anyone guess as to who was involved with that garbage, but I'd say the management clowns from various divisions got lost in there shitty mobiles and thought it would be a good idea to fuck windows deskstop/exporer and take a huge dump on it by introducing poorly designed metro shit.
I'd sack the fking lot of them in the top hierarchy for that brainless move and its cloud direction. And sack Balmer aswel I doubt he has a clue or even uses a pc.
|Csimbi||(05:18 PM CET - Dec,16 2013 )|
|Koogle> Its like cluster fuck of retards thought it would be good to take a leading OS and just lobotomize it so OSX and linux start to look like good alternatives
Hmmm. Interesting thought.
Koogle> I'd sack the fking lot of them in the top hierarchy for that brainless move and its cloud direction. And sack Balmer aswel I doubt he has a clue or even uses a pc.
Seeing how incompetent he is, I'd bet he is a Mac user as well.
