TechNews - MacBook Pro Throttling is a Bug - tech
(hx) 09:14 PM CEST - Aug,05 2018 - Post a comment
  • Asus ROG Strix X299-E Gaming ATX Motherboard Review: 44-Lane CPU Ready - The ROG Strix X299-E Gaming is a strong contender for buyers with 44-lane Core-X CPUs. But its unacceptable slot configuration with 28-lane processors prevents any broader recommendation.
  • Dell G7 15 Gaming Laptop Review: Affordable, Stylish, And Powerful - The specific configuration we took a look at packs an 8th generation six-core Intel Core i7-8750H processor, 16GB of DDR4 2666MHz memory, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q design and 6GB of GDDR5 memory, all wrapped in a dapper chassis. For storage, it pairs a 128GB M.2 SATA SSD with a 1TB hard drive (5400 RPM). Dell lists the market price for this setup at $1,209.99, but sells it online for $1,099.99.
  • Microsoft Surface Go Receives Repairability Score of 1 Out of 10 - The lack of modularity, especially on high-wear ports, makes repairs unnecessarily expensive. Adhesive holds many components in place, including the display and battery. Replacement of any part requires removal of the display assembly, an easy (and expensive) part to damage
  • Apple Says 2018 MacBook Pro Throttling is a Bug - Apple has released a new supplemental update to macOS High Sierra 10.13.6, which is designed to address a bug that caused the new eighth-generation quad-core and 6-core Intel processors in the 2018 MacBook Pro models to throttle inappropriately. The new macOS High Sierra update can be downloaded through the Software Update function in the Mac App Store on all 2018 MacBook Pro models
  •  i9 MacBook Pro and eGPU Review! - This video certainly got STRANGE - Slipknot, Fortnite and some MacBooks in the fridge :-)
  • Samsung Introduces Galaxy Tab S4: S835, 7300mAh Battery, Samsung DeX  - The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC (four Kryo 385 Gold cores, four Kryo 385 Silver cores, Adreno 540 iGPU, 64-bit LPDDR4X memory, etc.) that is equipped with 4 GB of RAM, and 64 or 256 GB of NAND flash storage (expandable by 400 GB using a microSDXC card). The tablet has a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2560x1600 resolution, which is a bit larger than the monitor used on the Galaxy Tab S3.
  • OpenWrt 18.06.0 Has Been Released - OpenWrt is an open source Linux operating system targeting embedded devices such as routers, smartphones, pocket computers, and residential gateways. OpenWrt version 18.06.0 is the first stable version after the OpenWrt/LEDE project merger and the source code is available on the project's GitHub page. The OpenWrt Community is proud to present the OpenWrt 18.06 stable version series. It is the first stable version after the OpenWrt/LEDE project merger and the successor to the previous stable LEDE 17.01 and OpenWrt 15.05 major releases. • How to detect bank fraud with maths - The financial crime and security team at Monzo bank explains how they used mathematics to detect a Ticketmaster data breach.
  • iPad Pro may be dropping the headphone jack but adding Face ID - Apple might be removing the headphone jack and adding Face ID to its newest iPad Pro models. Despite carrying the "Pro" moniker and shipping with apps for multimedia production, you may have to buy a dongle to use studio quality wired headphones. For each new Apple device that has arrived in recent years, dropping features seems to be just as popular as adding them. This year's iPad Pro models may arrive without a 3.5mm headphone jack according to rumors from Macotakara. In the report provided, the 10.5-inch iPad Pro shaves a few millimeters off of the width and height with no significant change to overall thickness. Dimensions are believed to be 247.5mm x 178.7mm x 6mm compared to the existing model at 250.6mm x 174.1mm x 6.1mm. Apple's 12.9-inch iPad Pro will see more evident reductions in physical size. Predicted dimensions come out to 280mm x 215mm x 6.4mm down from 305.7mm x 220.6mm x 6.9mm. This shrink will result in a noticeably shorter and slightly narrower body. Additionally, Face ID may be incorporated into the upcoming iPad Pro models. Contrary to previous reports, Face ID is believed to only work in the portrait orientation. Considering many iPad apps work better in landscape mode, this could prove to be somewhat of a nuisance.
  • GalaxyNote9 can shoot in 960fps for 0.4 seconds. 0.2 seconds -  According to SamsungMobile.News Twitter account, the Galaxy Note9 will be able to shoot in 'Super slow-mo' just like the Galaxy S9 and S9+ but will be able to capture more footage, extending the time from 0.2 seconds to 0.4 seconds. It is unclear at what resolution it will be shooting at, but if similar to the Galaxy S9, it should be at 720p resolution.
  • Samsung Creates 'Unbreakable' Display Panel for Phones - Samsung Display has said it has developed an unbreakable smartphone panel, and that the panel has been certified by the Underwriters Laboratories. The flexible OLED panel has an unbreakable substrate and an overlay window adhered to the front, says Samsung. The Underwriter's Laboratory said the panel surpasses military specifications. It handled repeated drops from 1.2 meters onto all edges, as well as extreme high (169F) and low (-26F) temperatures. The display panel was also dropped from 1.8 meters with no damage. Samsung Display says the OLED panel can be used on smartphones, in-car displays, military devices, portable game consoles, and tablets. "The fortified plastic window is especially suitable for portable electronic devices not only because of its unbreakable characteristics, but also because of its lightweight, transmissivity and hardness, which are all very similar to glass," said Samsung Display's Hojung Kim. Samsung did not say when the unbreakable OLED panel will reach devices. Samsung is expected to announce its next flagship phone, the Galaxy Note 9, at an event in early August.
  • Google Updates Developer Policies and Bans More Apps - Google has introduced a significant update to its Play Store Developer Policies and in so doing banned more categories of apps. For example, apps that mine cryptocurrencies on Android devices are no longer allowed. "The only cryptocurrency mining apps allowed are those that mine outside of the device, like cloud-based mining," said Google in the updated policies. Apps that copy other apps are now banned, as well. Google is specifically seeking to keep apps that steal the user interface or content from original apps out of the Play Store, as well as apps that are "created by an automated tool, wizard service, or based on templates." Google has put new safeguards in place to keep apps that "facilitate the sale of explosives, firearms, ammunition, or certain firearms accessories" from the Play Store. Apps that offer how-to instructions on creating bombs, guns, ammunition, and other weapons are prohibited. Last, apps that "appeal to children but contain adult themes" are no longer welcome in the Play Store. Google is banning apps that look to trick users by impersonating other people, companies, or businesses. The new policies went into effect immediately. Developers should ensure their apps meet the new criteria when submitting them to the Play Store.
  • Youtube Releases Massive Viewer Stats  -Youtube CEO Susan Wojcicki has released a blog post and video detailing some of the viewer count stats that the company has tabulated over the past year. 1.9 billion logged in viewers visit the video streaming website each month and watch 180 million hours of video each day. There has been a 35% rise in the number of people who make a 5 digit salary from Youtube and a 40% rise in the amount of people that make a six digit salary from the service. Livestreaming on the site has increased by 10X over the past 3 years. Those stats show the incredible amount of growth that has occurred in the platform.
  • WhatsApp Rings Up Group Video Chats for Android and iOS - WhatsApp has made it possible to make group voice and video calls through its mobile app. The app has supported one-on-one voice and video calls for some time. This new features lets people connect up to four people on a single call. WhatsApp says the features requires users to add participants one at a time via the new "add participant" button that appears in the app. Group calls are encrypted end-to-end, just like one-on-one calls. WhatsApp says the feature should work reliably around the world and in various network conditions. The new WhatsApp is available from the Google Play Store and the iTunes App Store.
  • iOS 12 Beta Updated for Public Testers - Apple has made new betas of iOS 12 available to its developer community and public testers alike. iOS 12 developer beta 5 was released earlier this week and iOS 12 public beta 4 was released today. Apple didn't spell out any specific changes in these builds. iOS 12 includes a number of new features, such as improved notifications, memoji for the iPhone X, performance refinements, Screen Time for monitoring usage, and better security. The final version of iOS 12 won't arrive until the fall months.
  • Apple Pay Expanding to CVS and 7-Eleven - Apple Pay will reach CVS and 7-Eleven retail locations later this year, said Apple CEO Tim Cook during the company's earnings call with investors. The company didn't say when Apple Pay will reach these retailers, but they are on deck. Apple noted that Apple Pay was responsible for more mobile payments than Square and PayPal combined during the second quarter of the year. Apple Pay is available from the newest iPhones, which are equipped with the proper wireless radio chip. Apple Pay is secured with the fingerprint reader on the iPhone 6s, 7, and 8, and Face ID on the iPhone X.
  • Google Pixel 3 XL Clearly White model leaks in new pictures - If you were a fan of the black and white (panda) Google Pixel 2 XL from last year, it unfortunately doesn't look like Google will be bringing back the design with the Pixel 3 XL. But thanks to several leaked hands-on photos of the Clearly White variant from XDA Developers, it at least looks like Google will keep the contrasting-colored power button around.

  • Stranger Things season three delayed until summer 2019 - The third season of Netflix original series Stranger Things won't be ready until the summer of 2019. That puts significantly more time between the launch of the third season compared with the arrival of the second although according to Netflix programming executive Cindy Holland, it'll be worth the wait. During a speaking engagement at the Television Critics Association's press tour this weekend, Holland said the Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy (the show's creators and one of its executive producers) understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than last year, she said, adding that she thinks it's going to be a fantastic season. Without revealing too much about the upcoming season, Holland did say it would feature more special effects work than previous seasons. "It's a really exciting season, just takes a little more time," she said.
