  • AMD trolls Intel with offer to trade in Core i7 CPU for Threadripper - Intel at Computex 2018 officially announced the Core i7-8086K, a limited edition processor (only 50,000 examples are being made) to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original 8086 processor released on June 8, 1978. As part of the festivities, Intel announced a sweepstakes in which it would give away 8,086 CPUs during a 24-hour span. The entry date - June 7 at 5:00 p.m. PST through June 8 at 5:00 p.m. PST - came and went without much fanfare - that is, until rival chipmaker AMD got involved. AMD on Monday announced a promotion of its own to celebrate the "next 40 years of high-performance computing." The first 40 US-based winners of Intel's competition can opt to trade in their shiny new Core i7-8086K for a Ryzen Threadripper 1950X, AMD's flagship 16-core / 32-thread processor.

  • The World in HDR in 4K (ULTRA HD) - Canary is Google's bleeding-edge Chrome browser where they test new features. We thought you might want to be able to view this 4K HDR in Chrome without the greyed and washed out colors. You can test it with the video below. Make sure you enable HDR in the Display Settings first so that the HDR tage shows in the Youtube video as a playback option. Of course you will likely want to have an HDR 4K display as well.
  • Acer Chromebook Tab 10 review - Both Acer's and Google's work on the Chromebook Tab 10 show that Chrome OS tablets can be great classroom tools. Acer made a friendly tablet that's lightweight and less slippery than others, and it features an attractive screen and a hidden stylus that you'll be hard-pressed to lose. It also has performance good enough to handle assignments given in K-12 classrooms and a battery life to sustain all-day work.

"File formats contain metadata that can be used to store information about how the image was captured and manipulated. Forensic tools can be used to detect manipulation by examining the noise distribution, strong edges, lighting and other pixel values of a photo. Watermarks can be used to establish original creation of an image."
  • Bitcoin Approaches Year Low as Japan Cracks Down on Venues - Bitcoin's value took a big hit today when Japan told six of the trading venues in the country to improve their business operations to help cut down on money laundering and other criminal activity. As a result some of the exchanges have quit taking new customers and are working to provide plans to the government by the 23 July deadline. This is much needed regulation in my opinion. Is regulation going to be bring on the demise of cryptocurrency or allow it to be a stable investment/currency instrument?

  • IGTV Is Instagram's Standalone Video App - Instagram today announced IGTV, a separate application meant expressly for consuming video content. Instagram insists IGTV is different from its existing app. "First, it's built for how you actually use your phone, so videos are full screen and vertical. Also, unlike on Instagram, videos aren't limited to one minute. Instead, each video can be up to an hour long," explained the company in a blog post. Videos from favored accounts will start to play as soon as users open the app. In addition to content from followers, IGTV will queue up videos based on users' interests. Sections such as For You, Following, Popular, and Continue Watching will let people browse and discover content from others. As always, people can like and comment on videos, as well as share them with friends. IGTV will include creator channels where people can upload their own videos. Instagram says the app will be available globally for Android and iOS devices over the next few weeks.
  • Windows 10 April 2018 Update is now fully available - Microsoft announced that the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, or version 1803, is fully available. Since it was first released in the beginning of May, it has been installed on over 250 million devices, including PCs, Xbox One consoles, HoloLens, IoT devices, and more. The company says that to reach the milestone of 250 million devices, it took less than half of the time as the Fall Creators Update. It's also worth noting that Windows 10 was installed on over 600 million devices as of late November, and now it's approaching 700 million.
  • Google Says Android Messages Now Fully Available On the Web - Google has outlined some new functionalities headed to its Android Messages app. First, Messages users will be able to send and receive messages from their desktop PCs. Users will need to enable "Messages for web" in the mobile app. Once turned on, they'll be able to access stickers, emoji, and more from their PC. The Android Messages mobile app earns new support for GIFs, which are accessible from the composition bar. Google is adding its smart reply feature to Android Messages. This tool offers English-based, quick-response text/emoji suggestions. Google says more languages will be supported over time. Moving forward, Android Messages will bake in support for link previews. This way link recipients will be able to view an inline peek at linked info. Another new feature will provide people with instant copy access to one-time passwords received via text message. Android Messages on the web is rolling out today, with the rest of the features reaching the mobile app over the weeks ahead.
  • iOS 12 to Give 911 Precise iPhone Location During Emergencies - Apple has said iPhones will soon provide 911 emergency services with more exact locations of callers. Since 2015, Apple has relied on HELO (Hybridized Emergency Location), which uses cellular, GPS, and wifi access points to estimate 911 callers' locations. This system is not always perfect. Starting with the release of iOS 12 in the fall, Apple will use RapidSOS's internet protocol-based pipeline to share HELO location data with 911 centers quickly and securely. Apple says this new system will integrate with 911 centers' existing software to more finely pinpoint location. Importantly, Apple says user location data cannot be used for non-emergency purposes and 911 centers will only have access to location during 911 emergency calls. By law, wireless network operators are required to locate callers within 50 meters 80% of the time, but not until 2021. Apple says its new feature exceeds this requirement today. "This new functionality is an example of how companies and first responders can use technology to dramatically improve public safety," said Tom Wheeler, former chairman at the FCC. "Lives will be saved thanks to this effort by Apple and RapidSOS." iOS 12 is expected to reach iPhones and iPads in September or October.

ahahah

that's some multi level trolling, both on the "next 40 years of high-performance computing" which intel are pretty much slipping out of competing going by what they have on offer and coming up.. and also on forcing intel into actually giving such prizes away as who wouldn't want to trade up a cpu, and if they find none of the winners from intel even apply, then it might just mean intel never even gave away any prizes anyway? which I mean who really checks that stuff anyway, amd really on intels back now.

I pity you. do your friends laugh and smile a lot when you talk to them about PC's? Here's a hint, it's not cuz you're funny.

You guys rock!
Still arguing about totally different things.
Way to go!

Who the fuck cares about how many devices have Windows 10 install when it was forced onto people???
It's like: 80% of the people breath humid air while it's raining outside.

Windows 7 is a far better choice when you don't want to trade in your privacy for all the free shit is giving away in their app store (and the Easter Eggs built into the OS).
So, you want bleeding edge? You don't mind software not running as expected? You don't care about your privacy? Go for Win10, by all means.
End of story.
Bickering about it for ages does not change a thing...

That's just it, you claim that, yet they did not roll back even though they had the choice. Win 10 is now dominating.

Total Bullshit. Windows 7 collects data including telemetry. Free shit in their app store? Wow don't use Android or a smart phone asswipe because there's tons of free shit on their store. But we all know, like Koogle you are using a n00b friendly apple crap phone.

Bleeding edge? Or just updated/current. You think you have more privacy on Win7? You are a moron. Win7 collects your data the same way as Win8 and Win10 does and in both cases if you have a clue, you can turn it off. Yes, you can. You fucking cry about privacy and yet you are probably using Google search that tracks everything you do. You probably have a phone, which tracks everything including all your downloads, phone calls, contacts and photo's. STFU you are clueless like your buddy Koogle.
