- Apple Planning to Launch Game Subscription Service - If
video-on-demand subscription services weren’t enough for you, prepare
yourself for an influx of game subscription services. According to a
report from Cheddar, Apple may be gearing up to
introduce a service of their own. The report, coming from five sources,
claims that Apple has been
speaking to game developers since late 2018 about a subscription
service. This service is reportedly early in development, and as
Cheddar states, Apple could abandon the project at any time. The report
comes just under a year after Apple struck down Valve's streaming app
Steam Link on their App Store.
- Bioware comments on the PC version of Anthem; mouse
acceleration, performance, FOV slider and more - The PC demo of
Anthem let down a significant amount of gamers as it has some
ridiculous mouse acceleration issues, has mediocre performance on
high-end machines, and lacks some PC-specific features like a FOV
slider. Thankfully, BioWare has shed some light on the final PC version
of the game, revealing the improvements that
will be coming to it.
- Anthem VIP Demo Compensation - BioWare is taking a step to
compensate Anthem VIP Demo participants for
all the problems encountered in testing their upcoming action/RPG. They
say they are unlocking all four javelins for VIPs. This unfortunately
came just as the not-very-successful VIP demo drew to a
conclusion, but these will be available to VIPs in this coming
weekend's open demo. Chad Robertson, head of BioWare's Live Service,
explains: "As a further thank you, all four javelins are available now
in the Forge for players who have played in this weekend's demo. Won't
get a chance to jump in? They will be waiting for VIP participants next
weekend! Log out and back in to see them if you're in game."
- People Can Fly Does Not Plan on Returning to the Painkiller
Series - While Polish developer People Can Fly is known for recent
games like
like Gears of War Judgment and Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, the game
that put them on the map was Painkiller, a first person shooter for PC
that released back in 2004. While a AAA shooter published by Square
Enix is on the immediate horizon for People Can Fly, during a recent
interview with CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski, DualShockers asked if the
developer would ever consider revisiting Painkiller if it had the
chance. Sadly, the answer was no. The first and somewhat obvious reason
for this mindset is that People Can Fly doesn't own the Painkiller IP
anymore. “We don't own this IP, as far as I know the IP is owned by
THQ
Nordic,” commented Sebastian
- Madden NFL 19 - Super Bowl 53 Prediction - Super Bowl
53–or LIII if you like your Roman numerals–is set to take
place this coming Sunday, February 3, in Atlanta, Georgia and it will
feature a showdown between the AFC's New England Patriots and the NFC
representatives the Los Angeles Rams. As is tradition this time of
year, EA Sports turned to this
year's edition of Madden 19 to try and
predict who the winner of the game will be and this year, it sees
youth
coming out on top of experience.
- Resident Evil 2's Ghost Survivors DLC Will Start Rolling Out
in February - Capcom has announced via Twitter that the three upcoming what
if stories coming to
Resident Evil 2 as free DLC will begin rolling out on February 15. Each
storyline will focus on one unfortunate individual in Racoon City who
did not survive the t-Virus outbreak.
- Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines unofficial patch 10.2 - Wesp5
has released the final version of the unofficial patch 10.2 for Vampire: The Masquerade
– Bloodlines. The unofficial patch mod is a restoration project
adding a lot missing content, including new quests, levels, weapons,
items, characters, dialogue, graphics, models, sounds and original
music. In other words, it's a must-have mod for everyone that wants to
replay this classic title. The first version of patch 10.2 came out
last month and corrected mirrors and details on several maps, added a
few weapon drop sounds and fidget and upset sound groups, fixed details
in library level and text and dialogue details and improved python and
loader file compatibility.
- Free to play version of the battle royale game, PUBG, is
currently in beta testing - PUBG Corporation has announced that a free to play version of
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, PUBG Lite, is currently in beta testing.
Unfortunately, though, this beta testing is exclusive for a limited
time to Thailand and it will help the team determine if this is a
viable product for other regions. PUBG Lite is described as a
standalone product from the core PUBG game that will have its own
dedicated dev team that will create exclusive content and quality of
life features while also adding maps and content familiar to PUBG
players. The goal of PUBG Lite, other than offering a free to play
version of PUBG, is to deliver the PUBG experience to players in areas
where the core game's required specifications are more difficult to
achieve due to the hardware available. In PUBG Lite, players will be
able to play Solo/Duo/Squad in TPP mode and there is currently one
map. Erangel is a fictional island located in the black sea and
contains varied environments such as a nuclear power plant, submerged
city, swamp, mountain areas and many more. In
related news, I just found a pretty decent apples-to-apples comparison
showing the graphical difference between the Steam version of PubG,
PubG lite, and PubG mobile
- Star Wars Episode 1: Racer in Unreal Engine 4 Fan Remake -
This project is currently in a really early state, however there is a
lot of potential here for a great fan game (or at least a cool tech
demo). Since this is a racing game, we believe that it could be
possible to polish one map and release a demo for it (provided Cagnani
is willing to release it to the public once it's finished). Cagnani
has released a video, showing the current state of this fan remake.
As said, the project is in an early stage but it looks promising. The
flight controls seem to be fine and all the core mechanics seem to be
in place.
- Metro Exodus will not release on Steam - Epic Games and
Deep Silver announced today their partnership to launch digitally on PC
the highly anticipated Metro
Exodus via the Epic Games store. According to the the game's
official Steam store page, this is an exclusive deal, meaning that the game will not be available on Steam at all
(those who have pre-ordered the game on Steam will still get it).
- FreeSync/G-Sync Compatible Input Lag? - YouTuber
Battle(non)sense decided to test whether there were any differences between running an ASUS VG258Q monitor
in FreeSync mode vs. G-Sync mode on NVIDIA and AMD cards. They
appear to perform quite comparably, although certain combinations
(e.g., AMD GPU + FreeSync) appear to offer lower delay. One interesting
find was input lag of 10ms or more with NVIDIA when adaptive sync was
turned off entirely.
- Zuckerberg Plans to Integrate WhatsApp, Instagram, and
Facebook Messenger - Three of the world’s
largest messaging networks will soon become one: Mark Zuckerberg, who
owns WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger, has decided to merge
the "underlying technical infrastructure" of all three, which boast
more than 2.6 billion users combined. Users will be able to communicate across the platforms
for the first time, but the services will continue to operate as
stand-alone apps.
