Meltdown/Spectre Updates = Big Slow Down for SSDs - tech
(hx) 05:32 PM EST - Jan,07 2018 - Post a comment / read (5)
TechSpot has published four pages of insight on how the OS and motherboard patches for Meltdown and Spectre could affect your desktop system. While the primary concern for many is CPU performance, the hits to SSDs are also noteworthy: results show up to 40% degradation for processes such as sequential read and write.

Yes I am noticing big difference in transfer rates big files and sequential r/w is big time affected including working across disks. Decryption and unpacking is slower. Whatever solution they are implementing should not affect performance this much.

No problems here. Not using or planing to use the fix since there is nothing to fix except panic attacks in some people. :P

I'll wait for what Intel is doing before I do anything else.

You know, having read things like this, I decided not to install the KB4056894 patch.
There are no known vulnerabilities yet - and the only way it can get in is through the internet, which have not happened yet.
So, I think I can live without it.
