Postal 2: Apocalypse Weekend
(hx) 11:19 AM CEST - Jul,06 2005

Apocalypse Weekend is a single player expansion pack for Postal 2, which was later bundled with a multiplayer component in a different SKU called Postal 2: Share The Pain. That means you'll need either the original Postal 2 or Postal 2: Share The Pain to play Apocalypse Weekend.

Unlike Postal 2, the expansion includes more traditional levels, where you must accomplish very specific missions. You'll rarely return to the same area. Instead, after completing one stage, you'll be warped to the next one, with a clever cutscene in between to set the tone. There is no free roaming except one little section right outside the hospital and that's only at the beginning.

Apocalypse Weekend includes 20 new maps (including the Elephant Preserve and the Taliban Training Camp) and new melee weapons - boomerang Machete, the Scythe and the head-popping Sledgehammer. Each can be thrown to make them a ranged weapon. The machete and scythe are capable of chopping off heads, arms, legs, hands, and feet. There're also some new enemies like MadCow-infected Tourettes Zombies, Tornado Cats (they are scary!) and suspiciously Gary Coleman-like Demonic Midgets. The Tornado Cats aren't the only appearance of dangerous animals. One stage deals with Postal Dude's new job - putting mad cows out of their misery with a sledgehammer to the skull. Also the zombie levels are pretty cool ...it's like Dawn of the Dead movie - .you can chop off zombie limbs and they still keep coming (until you destroy their heads).

Unfortunately, gameplay is lacking and is terribly short. You could probably beat it in less than 5 hours. Besides, the game includes numerous bugs that shouldn't be there since the game was delayed for almost a year.

Of course, if you enjoyed Postal 2, there's absolutely no reason not to give the expansion pack a try! ....Got a scythe, anyone? :)
