Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark
(hx) 12:40 PM EST - Feb,29 2004

Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark is the second expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights, one of the best RPGs ever made. As I expected, the expansion continues the journey from the Shadows of Undrentide. I don't want to spoil the storyline for Hordes of the Underdark for anyone, but what I can tell you is that the story starts off in Waterdeep, one of the more famous cities in the Forgotten Realms world. An army of Drow (dark elves), beholders and Mind Flayers are about to attack the city. You come to the city as a hero of great renown and set off on a strike mission into the dungeon of Undermountain to stop the attacks. In the course of heading off the impending invasion, you have to stand against an entire army of drow, beholders, undead, and mind flayers. And thatís just the beginning...

The most significant addition in Hordes of the Underdark is the ability to take your character from NWN or Shadows of Undrentide above level 20, in accordance with the D&D Epic-Level rules. You must start at level 15 or higher. If you start a new character or one at a level lower than 15, you'll be given the requisite experience points when you start the expansion. The level limit has been raised to 40, though you'll probably end Hordes of the Underdark somewhere in the range of level 25 to 30. Level 20 characters are actually incredibly powerful, with Level 40 characters being near demi-gods :) /Here's one mod to take you to 40 at least/.

Another the most exciting additions are of course, the new character classes. The six new prestige classes (there are now 11 prestige classes in total) that are included with Hordes of the Underdark are the Dwarven Defender, a mighty fighting class for Dwarf players; the Weapon Master, a class that focuses on developing great skill with a specific weapon; the Shifter, a person who can take the shape and abilities of a large range of animals and monsters; the Pale Master, a class that can control and take on abilities of the undead; and the Champion of Torm, which is a holy fighter for the god Torm. The sixth and most unique new prestige class is the Red Dragon Disciple. This class allows the player to take on some characteristics of a dragon. The can develop a breath weapon, natural armor, strength, and even grow wings like that of a Red Dragon.

There's also loads of new spells and feats, a bunch of new skills, the ability to have two henchmen, 4 new tilesets (Drow Underdark, Drow Interior, Beholder Tunnels and Mind Flayer Tunnels), 16 new creatures (Driders, Mind Flayers, Spider Demons, Dracoliches, Eyeballs, White and Black Slaads, Harpys, Azers, Demonflesh and Mithril Golems and Beholders), over 40 new spells (Ball Lightning, Battletide, Blade Thirst, Bless Weapon, Crumble, Death Armor, Flame Weapon, Glyph of Warding, Great Thunderclap, Healing Sting, Infestation of Maggots, Iron Guts, Keen Edge, Mestil's Acid Sheath, Monstrous Regeneration, Scintillating Sphere, Shelgarn's Persistent Blade, Undeath to Death and Vine Mine), over 50 new feats and 150 feat-like abilities (Wildshape (Dragon), Overwhelming Critical, Bard's Curse, and Lasting Inspiration), new weapons (Dwarven Battleaxe and Whip), new Crafting Skills (Craft Potion, Craft Scroll, Craft Armor and Craft Weapon), ability to modify Armor, Robes and Weapons, 50 new heads, new portraits, and six new Voice Sets, new music by Jeremy Soule, new toolset functionality, and lots more.

Overall, the game itself doesn't look much different, except that there is improved camera control. The camera has been unlocked, allowing for a free-form feel. Bioware have also increased the polycount on nearly all of the new models and tilesets, so they're way more detailed, and look absolutely awesome. It took me around 26 hours to complete the campaign (thanks Ivanek for help), that's fairly amount for an expansion. In my opinion, anyone who was a fan of Neverwinter Nights, and is still interested in playing the same type of adventure again will enjoy this new expansion. The various added features definitely add to the game's replay value. This expansion is really worth getting if you're a Neverwinter Nights or CRPG fan.

gameplay movies: movie1 (5.1MB), movie2 (2.8MB), movie3 (2.4MB), movie4 (2.1MB), movie5 (3.4MB), movie6 (5.4MB), movie7 (2.6MB), movie8 (6.1MB), movie9 (3MB),   /DivX required/

Hordes is ok, played like royal crap on a Radeon 9700 major lag problems I had, way better since I got a GF card again. This game is ok but I was really disappointed by the lameness of stealing all my equipment at the start. NWN was a good bunch of games, took my time finished em in 2months. Worthwhile for the money.

the blank name guy aposted - Mar, 01 2004 - 14:36
hordes is alright i agree w/tom on the stealing of equipment in the first 5min of the game. All of the nvrwnr nights games/expansions are worth the $$$$ i also agree with the review. oh and hx clive barker's undying is the best game i own the atmosphere in the game, the ambiant sound, plus its from horror master clive barker:). i was lucky to find it at a gamestop so i picked it up that has to be the most underrated game ever it is worth the money if you can find it

Quit your squrilling lies you bull-headed dogs my commenting goes to whoever PRETENDING to be HX himself. HX, wouldn't waste his quality time on your crying babies lame-ass request or question. And to "Tom" you've make a wrong move by switching to your dull Nvidia GF video cards you be best and better off with ATI Radeon video cards in the first place. I'm a HUGE fan and also a member or if you wish a (Clan of a ATI's Community Member). Recently I just got PC beef-up with ATI's latest video card the ULTIMATE RADEON 9800 XT and let me tell ya its a KICK ASS graphics card EVER. High price but worth it every penny of it. Now why don't you crying babies come join with us team the winning team. ATI's RADEON video cards rulez.

Tomposted - Mar, 02 2004 - 09:41
DR.MADNESS, ur lame and ur video cards are too. I know cuz I owned a piece of junk from you. Worst drivers ever, piss poor community, tremendously poor beta testers, serious attitude ati persons. Since I been back with nvidia i got ZERO of the problems I was plagued with with ATI, my games work PERIOD, try that on for size, DR.RETARD. reply all ya want..facts are fact, you'll have a clearer understanding in a few months.

Jim Lawlessposted - Mar, 02 2004 - 15:18
Tom, you got a good points there I know what mean in the varity gaming test show that between ATI's latest video card R9800 XT and Nvidia latest video card the FX5900 I believe. It show that on some level of degree its pretty much side-by-side in terms of quality and killer graphics and smoother running pc and games. But at the end I think it too much for Nvidia to handle ATI's or even compare to it. So ATI's is still ahead of Nvidia abit.

Tomposted - Mar, 02 2004 - 16:20
2 fps or 8 fps means dick. It's purely can the card run all the games, can it run them all fluidly, does the card crash pc to desktop or hang system, do you read that in these reviews? no? ATI is prone to these problems, not nvidia. I have yet to own or have owned a nvidia card that did that. My 9700 had and still continued to have problems driver after driver. When I went for support, I got flamed told off by ATI in a mischevious way then banned etc. So even from a support perspective, ATI sucks. I never and still don't know where nvidia goes to know their problems but driver after driver they always put out fixing and improving drivers. Winning in fps is only part of the game to be a success, stability and power is another thing, something ATI hasn't even come close to. Bad beta testers? Hard headed driver developers, maybe? Who knows, but the focus is on Nvidia now and their new 16 pipeline cards. Give nvidia a inch they go a mile. go to rage3d, read the posts see the problems for yourself. There are multitudes of problems. With nvidia you have an array of drivers that will always work, ATI? a mere handful. Why I even bother wasting my breath here with these ATI fanboys.. sigh.. ATI will be lucky to ever have the lead again..

9800xt_ownerposted - Mar, 02 2004 - 18:46
I can't believe how ATI guys so ignorantly overlook the driver issues they have?!?!?!?!?!?! COME ON!!!! LET'S BE REAL!!!

FX5900posted - Mar, 02 2004 - 18:56
When nVidia takes back the graphics card crown, all you ATI-wussies will come running back. And we'll remind you of what you just said.

abcposted - Mar, 02 2004 - 23:04
Ahh, poor little Tommy has gotten his feelings hurt. So he comes crawling to another site to vent. Why bother wasting your breath? I'll tell you why. You have nothing else to do. I mean, damn, look at yourself. You sound like a little bitch thats been turned away by to many ladies in your miserably little life and now you're at the end ramble about...'daaaa...ATI fanbooyz, daaaa...16 pipelinez....daaaa comput0rz...." Laughable at best. Funny little man. Any to the last "non-wussie" "badass" dope above - 'Werd' You probably should get out more too. On second thought, for the sake of the rest of society, stick to vegitating behind you 'puter . Itz probably best.

FX5900posted - Mar, 03 2004 - 02:16
abc - if we don't get out much it's because we have video cards that are awe-inspiring... so suck it down. ATI users have to get out as an excuse to not cry over their miserable drivers.

Paul Bullyposted - Mar, 03 2004 - 02:54
Haha! you skunkhead think your Nvidia FX5900 are the best huh! I don't think so our latest ATI Radeon 9600 XT pro 256MB will probably kick your video card-ass any day any time and anywhere. Don't believe it go check it out for yaself at ATI.COM. So Tom, baby boy bring it on yaaa pigfart BASTARDS. Better watch yaa stinkin-behind because if ya see a stranger wearing a t-shirt with the loco ATI on it better watch out because that's me and I'm gonna KNOCK ya Nvidia fan out of u.

::posted - Mar, 03 2004 - 03:05
I hope you wasted a decent amount on that XT since my ATi 9600 Pro 256MB is only 100mhz lower lol. besides 9800 blow us out of the water too :|

FX5900posted - Mar, 03 2004 - 05:33
like i'm going to listen to the advice about ATI card from ati.com?!???!??! man, ATI-fans are noobz. Besides, i BIOS flashed my FX5900 into a FX5950U for *FREE* .... so it would whip your 9600 XT Pro.

Settle down princess, we'll give you a cookie and it'll all be alright. What do you do anyways? Come back and check this thread every 15mins for updates so you can leave some more "Hi my name is fx5900 - I'm a complete faggot and the only thang dat ownz dis A$$ is dis card I like to shove up in here" messages? We all understand, as can be clearly seen, you are probably all of about 8 yrs old and think you some how are coming off 'kewler' than you truely are...but try giving it a rest and maybe leaving something a little more online to the actual topic (which happens to be NWN: Hordes of the Underdark in case you didn't bother looking.)

Hahaha, yes ATI users are n00bs! Oh and to ABC, I been married 5 years and got 2 kids. SHOCKER! ABC, as your name implies I think you should loosen your diapers you got too much $hit in them. As I said, now I just laugh at ATI users and go roam the rage3d site and use it to laugh at with friends. So funny to see fanboys of ATI state their cards are so good, when their site is totally littered with complaints and problems! And the pitiful pitiful admins kiss ATI guys butts so much, you get no opinion, certainly not negative since they ban ya right up front. Must be a real lowlife to sink that low boot your community members just to please ATI, cuz ATI can't handle the negativity out there towards their products. Other thing to note, the immense swearing from them.. 15 year olds, ah how it must be to still be a TEENager.. not even adults yet..lmao.

Knightlyposted - Mar, 03 2004 - 14:21
Man 2 kids and married and nothing better to do than be here arguing with 15 year old about whos got the biggest now that realy is sad.

Tomposted - Mar, 03 2004 - 15:16
Sorry, it's just funny. This game been out for ages anyhow, who doesnt know about it or hasn't played it yet LOL! I finished it like 2 months ago..sadder is that I attract people to this site from all over that like to follow the ati vs nvidia.. I'm even considering building my own site based on nvidia vs ati, sort of comparing BS advertising and BS review sites. LOL!

abcposted - Mar, 03 2004 - 17:59
SHOCKER?! No, you've just illustrated to us how miserable and sad your life must truely be. To say you are married and have two kids (I can only imagine that image. lol Must be one lovely picture), and to act the way you do...sheesh you've said it all right there. Don't get mad at the rest of us for the bum deal you've received in life. Or go ahead. In some twisted way it's comical to watch miserable little people like you desperately trying to cling to something. In this case your little video cards. Ahh, now isn't that precious...

P.S. Terry Adelae needs some grammar and spelling classes. I think it's pretty evident all ati fanboys are very uneducated. or it's the same kid using many names.

Tomposted - Mar, 04 2004 - 13:53
I don't know, should he tolerate all you little punks from rage3d coming here and creating all this mess? I don't know. I think it's a shining example for people interested in ATI and seeing how it's community is..and as xxx says, if you are interested in ATI go see rage3d, that's the MAIN support site and read the forums, then see if you are still interested in ATI. Now can we end this here? or would you and your other kid friends care to prolong it? Let us compare the remarks of mine to the 'mass' of remarks from you and your buddies...

Berk Dewd! 32Mb nVida? Upgrade your video card. I would recommend a GF 5700 or better is a low end GF6800. Also check to see if you can tweak your ram.
