THPS4) improves on the previous version with a number of minor gameplay tweaks that, taken together, add up to a noticeable enhancement on the series' established formula. If you've played any of the early versions of THPS, you know the basics of the gameplay. I won't waste my time going through the basics of tricks and combos and manuals. Everything that was in the earlier versions is back and just as strong. Simply, the game itself is even more addictive than ever. THPS4 features14 of the hottest 14 professional skateboarders (including Tony Hawk, Rune Glifberg, Bob Burnquist, Bucky Lasek, Steve Caballero...), 9 huge levels, all new tricks-skitch behind cars, skate on moving objects, and transfer over spines, an enhanced Career Mode, you can now start out in "free skate", explore the level without a time limit, Instant Replay to check out your sick combos, level editor so you can build your dream skatepark and up to 8 player online (LAN/Internet) in all new modes like Goal Attack and Capture the Flag. The basic premise is the same as the other games before it: You must complete goals (over 190 goals in total) in order to progress through the increasingly intriguing levels. From the main menu, you can go for a "Free skate", a "Single session", take part in a number of "2-player games" (with a few new modes to boot), "network play" through Internet/LAN, "create-a-Skater", "build your own skate park", and finally the "Career mode". I did say that the major difference is in the totally reworked Career Mode, the developers did away with the two-minute time limit and reworked the goal system to allow for much larger levels. This not only allows you to explore the levels and collect cash, but it also gives beginners a stress-free environment to develop their skills. THPS4 is definitely the best in the series and an incredibly enjoyable port. If you like skateboarding, you'll enjoy the game no doubt about it. Download playable demo (133MB). Going outside and actually getting hurt doing it, is alot more fun than playing a game about it for a week. Gameplay > graphics for me so a game doesnt have to have the latest and greatest technological advances in the video are for a game to be fun for me.
