The Sims: Superstar (hx) 10:00 AM CEST - Jul,10 2003
The Sims: Superstar is already sixth expansion to the genre-busting best-selling people simulator, The Sims. The Sims: Superstar allows you to become a movie-star, music icon, or a top fashion model, or in other words, a big shot in Studio Town. You take a single Sim there, you can shop, you can meet other Sims there, and of course you can completely bulldoze it and rebuild in your own image. But Studio Town is also very different, because it is a place where your Sim can work meaning, they earn lots of money there, and they also earn fame. There are a number of new characters, like the movie director, the fashion designer, the photographer, and the record producer. You perform for these characters, and play mini-games of guessing what kind of performances they are looking for, hoping to win their approval. If you give them what they're looking for, you'll earn fame and money. Start out as a "Nobody" and work your way up the ladder to a "Somebody" by making friends with other NPCs stars in studio town and by completing certain photo shoots or recording some tunes.
The Sims: Superstar features spa locations, dive bars, clothing boutiques including Oxygen Bar, Star Trailer, Sushi Cart, Smoothie Stand, basic back-stage Buffet Table, many new objects including Karaoke Machine, Open Microphone Stage, Soap Opera Set, Music Recording Studio, Photo Shoot Set, Film Set, Music Video Set, and Fashion Runway, variety of Studio Town professionals, including the Photographer, Director, Choreographer, Record Producer, Fashion Designer, Studio Town Production Coordinator, Award Presenter but also annoying Obsessed Fan, of course there are all new walls, floors, and roofs , all new skins and dozens of original "Simlish" songs ranging from a variety of genres.
After so many expansions, The Sims: Superstar is surprisingly one of the best add-on for The Sims. Those of you who have purchased the five previous expansion packs will likely find this worth buying. In other words, buy it if you still play The Sims :) Ed.note: I've noticed there is another, seventh expansion planned for the end of the year - Please god, make them stop :) Anyone else feel they're going to start this whole expansion-mania again when they release Sims 2? (grin)
System Requirements
PII 450MHz or faster, 128MB RAM, 4MB PCI or AGP video card capable of High Color (16-bit Color/ 800x600), 4x CDROM drive using 32-bit driver, 1.12 GB free HDD space, Win95/ 98/2000/XP, WinNT and WinME are not supported, DirectX 7.0 or newer
snd: 4/5 - same quality as previous Sims, adds more "simlish" language ~ cool karaoke - Simlish songs ranging from a variety of genres gfx: 3/5 -
same quality as previous Sims, now a bit dated, several new animations, all new walls, floors, and roof, scrolling camera is as sluggish as ever playability: 4/5 -
surprisingly still enough enjoyable for The Sims fans, more substantial additions than most other expansions, new job-related gameplay , still the same old game, long load times, occasional bugs

| Hjarry | posted - Jul, 11 2003 - 09:39 | The success of the franchise lies in the way it mirrors the dull outlines of the players' real lives. Its endless rounds of dress-up, consumerism, mindless house cleaning and other daily ritual is simple stuff that they can relate to - with the added charm of watching the Sims move around like fish in a bowl (and prodding them if they don't swim the way you want). It's kind of the quintessential American suburban game - a total hit with the conformists. |

| nelly f | posted - Jul, 11 2003 - 16:40 | this game is only like 1/7 reality. They are so many other cultural lifestyles out there no included in this game. so i agree with Hjarry is more of an American suburban game. which is somewhat stupid cause all the wonderfull things of foreign cultures and not included. |

I don't like to lump people into groups like the 2 above 1d10t's. Label them what you will if you want, but what does that make you? |

It would be a great game if it had a 3D engine (like GTA3) and you could drive cars, enter buildings, etc |

How can you argue with success? It's been one of the most popular and best selling, money making games of all time. Like I said it's not my cup of tea I'd personally like to go shootem up, but then again not everyone likes to go fraggin either.
The next Sim$ will be with a better 3D engine. |

| zooo queue | posted - Jul, 13 2003 - 00:05 | Different people like different types of games. So the sims can be a likeable game for some gamers and a non-entertaining game for other gamers.
i personally find this game boring and think its somewhat retarded but they are enough people who like it that it makes money and stay's alive i guess. |

| Please | posted - Jul, 13 2003 - 03:25 | GhostMater rulz - If the game would be as bad as you say, noone would play it. However the truth is that the sims is one of the top selling games out there, including their expansions. |

| co pilot | posted - Jul, 13 2003 - 05:55 | top selling is meaningless when i go to buy a game i don't give a shit if its top selling. If the game is top selling all that shows is that its popular it does not mean its good or bad. these terms good or bad are realative to gamers different tastes. if people don't have a taste for simulations then of course they will probabaly not like the sims. If they do have a taste for simulation type games then they might think its good. the popularity of the game is not relavent to if the game is good or bad. Its a matter of personal likes and dislikes of gamers. |

| Evil Monkey | posted - Jul, 13 2003 - 16:02 | Reality?!?! It takes 15mins for a character to visit the toilet!!! WT... The only reason this is top selling is because chicks keep buying it. Get a life; don't buy one. =D |

| V1m | posted - Jul, 13 2003 - 23:59 | Lots of people come to games to live out their fantasies. Why not? It's a pretty cheap and painless way to escape shitty life sometimes. So, Quake lets guys dream of being bad ass mofos. The Sims lets chicks dream of nicer curtains and nicer husbands! LOL! |
