Post Mortem is newest point-and click adventure from Microids set in the exotic art world of Paris in the 1920s. In the game you play the role of retired American private detective, Mac Pherson, hired by a mysterious yet sensuous lady, Sophia Blake, to find out who murdered her sister and her brother-in-law, the Whytes. The beheaded couple were killed in a mysterious ritual way in one of Paris most luxurious hotel. Needless to say that the bloody death scene becomes the shock of the city...
Post Mortem features over twenty different 3D characters each with individual personalities, all involved with the investigation, Dark, moody and paranormal atmosphere faithfully reproducing Paris during the 20's (café's, bistros, hotels, abandoned metro stations, houses and flats), a flexible dialogue engine (you have multiple, dynamic dialogue options available as each conversation progresses) combined with cut scenes, some interesting and unusual puzzles and non-linear storyline offering different paths for the completion of the case. Post Mortem is entirely mouse driven, using the tried-and-true formula of right-clicking to get the inventory and the game's menu system. The inventory system is also pretty classic, with a single click on an item to use it or read it.
Is it good? Well, I really enjoyed Syberia last year, so it's really hard to rate any adventure game now. Fortunately Post Mortem tries something different with the way the game unfolds, with multiple endings depending on certain choices, and you don't necessarily have to complete certain tasks in order, or even the same way. If you like adventure genre and horror stories, I can recommend you this creepy, challenging and atmospheric thriller. Download playable demo
Minimum: Pentium II 350 MHz, 64 MB RAM, 470 MB Free HDD space, 16X CDROM, DirectX Compatible Sound Card, 16 MB Direct3D compatible 3D graphics card
Recommended: Pentium III 500 MHz, 128 MB RAM, 720 MB Free HDD space, 24X CDROM, DirectX Compatible Sound Card, 32 MB Direct3D compatible 3D graphics card
snd: 4/5 - great, superb music, perfect voice-acting
gfx: 3/5 -
incredible mood, well detailed with beautifully colored textures, plenty of pre-rendered cut-scenes, poor lip-sync, too static 2D backgrounds, little quirky character animation, maybe too dark
playability: 4/5 -
classic first person point-and click + 360 p-o-v system, creepy, challenging, intelligent and atmospheric thriller, non-linear storyline, dark atmosphere, multiple endings, over 15 hours of gameplay, non-linear approach occasionally causes confusion with discussions out of continuity

|Good game, I played it in "french" version... A bit different from Syberia, but still a real adventure game with some puzzles, sometimes funny, sometimes irritating (the last one particularly!!!).
A bit short too : even shorter than Syberia was!!! Maybe I'm too good!!!
Certainly the n°2 of last year, in a genre in which there are no real challengers..|

|Can somebody tell me if you can change the resolution in the full version because in the demo you can't, and it's a bit low...|

|I have played the game but the ending didnt satisfy me. I thought there will be romance between blake & Mac....but she proved to be a con person....I was lookin forward to see more of Blake beside her panty & stockings|

|1. English dialogue is horrible
2. I HOPED 360' povs were dead in the DOS days... this game proved me wrong, and I wish it didn't :/
3. The biggest show-stopper: NO way to skip a dialogue line!! Even if it is a minute long!
Bottom line? The scenario is decent and intriguing, but the interface almost made me give up on the game whatsoever. BAD thing. BAD.|

|You have to look somewhere beyond the beauty of graphics to rate an adventure game. This is why Post Mortem can't make it to my favorites list. There are too many flaws in the gameplay, such as the appearance of future dialogue lines irrelevant with the chosen game path. There are also weird attempts at lengthening the otherwise short play time, such as the frustrating sketch puzzle and the dialogue lines that can't be skipped.
Actually, Microids have got a long way to go before maturity. Graphics are fine every time, but some of their games lack convenient game play (Post Mortem), some lack the atmosphere (Amerzone), and some simply have too many bugs (Syberia).
Still I'm grateful to Microids for not giving up on the adventure genre. I believe they will come up with a real hit in the next couple of games they create.|

|Man, when I can install a game, and it plays flawlessly with no crashes or patches plus gives me the joy of a true adventure:great sound, graphics, characters, story, puzzles, I have to say "Hats off to Microids again!"Siberia and Post Mortem fill the bill! I only hope to see more!|

|Post mortem is my favourite game ever!!!! It`s just like you are watching thriller or something!
And gameplay is very good! 360 degree views make game easy controlable. The one and the only mistake for me is that it has just 7 page manual. lol!|
