The Sims Unleashed
(hx) 12:09 AM CET - Nov,04 2002

The Sims: Unleashed is already fifth expansion to the genre-busting best-selling people simulator, The Sims. As fans of The Sims know, there has always been something missing from their virtual neighborhoods ... pets. Have you ever eaten rabbit meat? Oh, hehe sorry just kidding :) The expansion now offers you the ability to add different kinds of pets (turtles, iguanas, goldfish, parrots, cats, dogs...) to a new or existing sim family. Yeah it's cool, needless to say that the pets add a whole new dimension to gameplay. They are cute, with all of their running, jumping, playing, and sleeping animations. The Sims: Unleashed also adds Old Town, a new area to visit and a stark contrast to the vacation haunts and dating section from " tion" and "Hot Date." Old Town mostly features pet stores, parks, cafes and markets, that give the Sims and their new pets a variety of places to sniff, explore and meet their new neighbors. Pets largely come in two flavors - the interactive ones, like dogs and cats, or semi-interactive ones, like turtles, iguanas, goldfish, and parrots that pretty much stay in place. Pets help to keep your sim happy, but like the real world, they also add a lot of work, the pets require some care, so you'll have to feed them and clean them occasionally. The interactive pets (dogs and cats) have their own needs, personality, and skills, but unlike your sims, you can not take control of a pet and direct their actions. You pets have and maintain relationships with sims and other pets, so you should play with them a bit. Interacting with pets will strengthen the relationship. Once you gain the trust of a pet, you can train them to perform tricks and you can even enter them into pet contests and get some trophies from Spot's latest competition. The Sims: Unleashed adds larger neighborhood, five new career paths with 50 new and exciting jobs, over 125 new objects (walls, and floors, with many of the objects pet-related - toys, scratching posts, litter boxes, and the like), dozens of new character skins and an all-new decorator set with a New Orleans French Quarter theme. In addition, you can even buy the seeds to plant your own garden. When vegetables are harvested you can store them to use for meals or simply sell them at the market to make a little extra money. I must admit that The Sims: Unleashed isn't so revolutionary as The Sims : Hot Date, but it's brings again some enjoyable gameplay. However I hope that after so many expansions packs EA will deliver a bit more than this. Anyway, those who have purchased the four previous expansion packs will likely find this worth buying.

snd: 3/5 - the same quality as previous Sims, animals sound a bit weird
gfx: 4/5 - the same quality as previous Sims, the cats and dogs have incredible animations
playability: 4/5 - pets are an obvious addition, 5 new career paths with 50 new and exciting jobs, Old Town, over 125 new objects for pets and people, long load times, numerous small bugs
genre: life simulation
release: September 2002
developer: Maxis
publisher: EA
Good
Overall: 72%

I would agree that the sims is pretty stupid, it lacks depth. Its not complex enough to be an involving game, no plot, etc. But thats not the point, the point is: THESE PRODUCERS MUST BE 8 YEARS OLD TO RELEASE AN ENTIRE EXPANSION ON PETS. yeah, they're stupid.

Well, whatever your opinions are, the MAJORITY of computer users who are CASUAL users......are making the SIMS and all the related expansion packs some BIG money for EA and it's developers. Better than the hunting games and all the low budget copy cats that were topping the sales chart a couple of years back.

Yes, I agree with the previous post - at least the game is original, and it seems that a lot of people are playing it and buying new expansions (otherwise there would be no new releases of Sims). But still, if you bought expansion packs there isn't much here worth purchasing...in my opinion anyway. This game needs radical change (maybe Sims Online) otherwise it might get old all too soon.

The game is cool for a week. You get addicted to it, but soon you have gotten all money, all stats, top of top. To restart is then boring. The most you can do is start a killing spree, but even that is hard to accomplish :\ And another typo in last lines: I must admit that The Sims: =>Vacation<= isn't so revolutionary as The Sims : Hot Date, but it's brings again some enjoyable gameplay

This expansion is really good! For all of the people who don't like it are either stupid, violent people, or have no imagination what so ever! All of the sims are great and the creators deserve some respect!Half of the people out there probably won't do anything they actually like to do and are to stupid to do anything great!

like i would tell uposted - Dec, 07 2002 - 20:23
well i have played the original "the sims", i thought i was good, i does fail in certain areas, such as some menthoned in other comments above, but when im in a sloopy mood and cant be bothered, it succedes here, and here only. but i would give the game 9/10 as the game froze after playing it after some time and if the game had been used on another computer.graphics can be improved alot.

i aint telling u agaposted - Dec, 07 2002 - 20:30

What is wrong with most of u people.OKAY,so there is a couple flaws here and there, but it is ten times better than running around with a gun, shooting people, like I bet most of the mindless people writing reveiws play.I totally agree with Claire, there should be some imangination in your empty skulls.I am a BIG ROLE PLAYER.I have been playing online rpgs since I was seven, and the first thing I ever picked up was a game of Chrono Cross for nintendo.Like, does everything has to be perfect.I mean even a cheesy game like HM (harvest moon) is better than Serious Sam! Have u people ever heard of the atari????What the hell is your problem. The Sims Unleashed is a really good game to go and pick up,something you can't beat, something that has more than guns and spy gadgets (ok,Splinter Cell is fairly good),but for most of u people reading this, still doubting getting this game,go borrow it from someone for a month or two,and then decide if you should get it,it is not the perfect game for everyone, but if your taste is for controlling peoples lives (do you voodo?) then this is most likely the game for you.And for all you people that like a mixture of stimulation, control, and killing (it depends on if you're good or evil) also consider Black and White.

i only played the sims livin large and haven't bought any expansions after that so was just wondering if any of the new expansions can have the sims walk by each other on the one path instead of standing in front of each other staring for about 30 minutes (in sim time) at each other waiting for one to move before doing anything. that was one of the annoying things about it. also would be better if you could put object in 45 degree angles. and one last thing, there are no sliding doors or bi-folds.

Whooo this expansion is really good i like it because it can buy some pet's and feed him oooooh i like it

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNposted - May, 23 2003 - 04:19
i can feed my pets in real life woooo its soo fun! sometimes i use the tastly brand to feed my dog. THEN THE REAL SHOW GETS EXICITING YA WOOOOOOOO PARTY!! IM SICK OF SEEING PATHETIC ADDON'S OR "GAMES" WHICH ARE BASICALLY A CHEEP MOD OF THE PREVIOUS VERSION. yes i can wipe my ass with toilet paper i don't need a extra strength toilet paper upgrade. and i donn't need an instruction manuel. thats what this game is like. its like A LOAD of bs given too you.
