Aliens versus Predator 2: Primal Hunt (hx) 04:33 PM CEST - Aug,22 2002
Aliens versus Predator 2 was a big hit when it was released in the Fall of 2001. Now, the two great movie monsters come back for more in Aliens Vs. Predator 2:
Primal Hunt, the expansion pack for the original game from Third Law Interactive, a developer perhaps best known for the mediocre KISS: Psycho Circus (see earlier review).
Since this expansion is a prequel to Aliens Vs. Predator 2, the game takes place 500 years before the events that took place in Aliens vs. Predator 2 on planet LV-1201. Before the humans set up the research facility on Planet LV1201, Predators frequented the planet for the sole purpose to hunt Aliens. While hunting, the Predator stumbles across a Hive with some ancient ruins at its core. There he discovers an Artifact of great power that seems to keep Aliens at a distance. More Predators come and set up a shop inside the ruins, using it as a base for hunting Aliens. That same fateful day an accident causes our hero Predator to become trapped in a stasis field. 500 years later, he is discovered and inadvertently revived by a human Corporate mercenary named Dunya who is trying to retrieve the Artifact for the mercenaries she works for.
Primal Hunt features nine new single player levels (3 per species), completely environment such as never-before-seen Predator ruins, new species-specific weapons and combat styles - Human (Dual Pistols, Turret Gun, Deployable Sentry Gun), Predator (Energy Flechette, Self-Destruct - only in multiplayer), three new creatures indigenous to the planet (bull, biped, ape-sized lizard and giant worms with razor-sharp teeth), four new multiplayer maps and all patches/updates and additional maps issued by Monolith since the release of Aliens Vs. Predator 2. However if you have done any direct modification to the original game, I strongly recommend you to re-install your Aliens Vs. Predator 2 from scratch to avoid crashes.
The gameplay is still pretty much the same as Aliens Vs. Predator 2, though it's much more fast paced "kill or be killed" action - you'll be facing death from the very first moments of the game. The single player missions were just a bit too short for my tastes, the gameplay time is under half of the original game. It's damn short for twenty bucks :( Also multiplayer remains almost unchanged from Aliens Vs. Predator 2, along with four new multiplayer maps, there is suicidal Self-Destruct weapon for Predator allowing you start a self destruct sequence that will do a lot of damage to anything around. In addition, they brought back a server option from the original Aliens Vs. Predator that limits the types of weapons to be used in multiplayer. If you don't like the Flamethrower then don't allow it in the game.
Overall, compared to the original game, Primal Hunt doesn't break new ground in plot, graphics, AI, weapons or level design, but it does decent job for hard-core Aliens Vs. Predator 2 fans.
Minimum PC Requirements: Win9x/ME/2k/XP, Pentium III 450, 128MB RAM, 24x CDROM, 16MB 3D Card, 16-bit sound card, DirectX 8+
Recommended PC Requirements: Win9x/ME/2k/XP, Pentium III 700, 256MB RAM, 24x CDROM, 32MB 3D Card, 16-bit sound card, DirectX 8+
snd: 5/5 - same as AvP 2, additional sound of the ancient predator's flechette weapon, some new music gfx: 4/5 -
same as AvP 2, still uses the LithTech engine, never-before-seen Predator ruins, some minor tweaks playability: 3/5 -
pretty much the same as AvP2, more action-oriented, great story, too short (only 9 new levels), great level design and mission structure, 4 new MP maps, Self-Destruct weapon for Predator in MP, requires the original Avp2 game installed, a bit unbalanced damage

| Dino_Iria | posted - Aug, 22 2002 - 22:58 | Ok first the game was easy, 2nd this is hard! or maybe i forgot how good i *was* but the graphics are the same as the org game, and the AI looks a lot worse, it's funny watching a squad of marine walk straght by you and the last one killing his mates while trying to kill you, but hey the sound lives up to the org and still scares the crap out of you,, if you liked the game then get this, if not leave it on the shelf and get UT2003, ah fook it get both!! |

I have a comment about AVP2 primal hunt!!
it's pretty good but the new weapons in the game are to weak for preds.
like the energy flechette is to weak you cant kill any one with but with several head shots and the aliens too the onyl way to really use it and it to be a good weapon is if the host of the saerver has the player damage rate up to 125% to 200% then you can actually kill some thing with it.
and the preds self destruct is to weak too your much better off using the stickybombs then self destruct.
and the network connection in the game makes the players pings go crazzy it brinsg the pings up to 300 to 3000 !!
and the turret gun make loads of lagg to they should fix this.
they should make the self destruct more stroinger and more wider of a range then what it is.
and also add it to the class weapons list int he weapons txt for the moders to be able to mod it better for making mods.
and they shoudl make the corps 360 degrees motion tracker more power full too so they can motion track allot further.
and give the marines the motion tracker too like the new corps version.
the third law game programers who amde this new primal hunt add on did a bad job on the weapons and stuff they ruined the game for the gamers.
we are all allot better off just going back to play regular AVP2 and for get about the primal hunt add on pack.
cause they say it has gone gold be for it was released which is a load of crap it not a good game to play in mulit player at all.
the only thing that stopped me from bring it back was the new weapons and the predaliens headbite and new maps thats it, but the preds new weapons suck !!
so I suggest every one go to www.avpnews.com and look for the thrid law link and email them all your disappiontments about the game and make suggestion on how to make it a better game for us all to play.
and hopefully they will either make a patch for the game to change it a bit or make a new beta version of the game and make it allot better for us gamers.
if you want you can email me at comdo99@bellatlantic.net and I will send all your emails about primal hunt to third law and see if they make changes to the game for us all.
thanks for your time and for reading my post?
