Command & Conquer: Renegade is Westwood's first attempt at a FPS game set in the famous 1984's Command & Conquer universe. Command & Conquer universe. You play the role of Captain. "Havoc" Parker, elite GDI commando who fights and explores from a 1st/3rd-person viewpoint (optionally). Battling through exotic (and pretty large) indoor and outdoor environments, you're free to use both brute force and stealth in your mission objectives against the evil Brotherhood of Nod  which terrorizing the countryside. In single-player, you must complete dozen massive missions (some are really quite big). I didn't play tutorial which seemed to be extremely boring for me, playing the first mission must be enough training for anyone who even played any shooter :)
Most of the missions seem to begin as standard rescue operations, you're trying to find a group of scientists who've been captured by Nod. Each mission has primary and secondary and hidden tertiary objectives, with their distance and direction highlighted on your radar. Fortunately there is no necessary to complete secondary objectives, to successfully finish mission you must complete at least all primary objectives. Well, I liked to complete everything was possible, but later game getting be a bit repetitive, especially if you forget to save and they incidentally kill you. I highly recommended you to make a full save at the start of each mission.
The implementation of vehicles in first-person shooters is usually something that developers avoid like the plague. But the Command & Conquer universe would be pretty empty without tanks, GDI Humvees and Mammoth Tanks, Stealth Tanks etc. I must say that the ability to drive vehicles is probably the best part of C&C Renegade, they are quite well modeled, with the tanks feeling slow and powerful, while the Nod Buggy appropriately has much more slippery handling. Some moments in the game are really cool, especially when you drive vehicles directly into an action where battle already taking place. There's over 15 well modeled weapons available (including the Tiberium Auto Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Chaingun, Chemical Sprayer and the devastating Personal Ion Cannon), but most of them are similar in function. Sometime you must choose proper weapon to kill your enemies, for an example Tiberium-based weapons won't damage chem-sprayers. Unfortunately there's no blood in the game :(

The second big and probably the better part of C&C Renegade is multiplayer which employs some major innovations from the standard FPS multiplayer formula. They added a new exclusive team-based "C&C" mode that dropping deathmatch-style play to go their own way with a distinctive base-attack game was inspired. When you start the game or re-spawn you can either fight as a basic trooper for NOD (bad guys) or GDI (good guys) with a basic equipment or go into the local barracks and buy a unit upgrade or vehicle. Certainly you must have enough money. Money is gained by your Tiberium collecting infrastructure, your refinery, as well as destroying enemy vehicles, players and buildings. C&C Renegade offers ten multiplayer maps, and also an offline practice mode with computer-controlled bots where you can freely run around a map and figure out how everything works.
So was it worth the wait? I think definitely, though the game could be a bit more polished and run faster on my computer :) I bet C&C fans who likes also FPS genre will be satisfied especially with great multiplayer.
