After long 9 years of waiting is Wolfenstein back! Yeah it's true :) Return to Castle Wolfenstein (RTCW) is the reincarnation of Wolfenstein 3D. For those who don't remember (Shame on you!), in Wolfenstein 3D agent B.J. Blazkowicz must escape from Nazi imprisonment and stop the Nazi war machine. Now this guy is back in the action killing mutants, undead and nazis and the missions are much tougher! Why undead? Hehe, seems that Himmler is conducting occult experiments and you as Blazkowicz must stop him and his plan to raise the dead and create an army of "Nazi super soldiers."
RTCW has two parts - single player and multiplayer. You probably already heard that multiplayer part has been developed by Nerve, that's why you will find two different executables in the game folder - one for single player and another one for multiplayer.
The single player part of the game is surprisingly (at least for me) an intensely story-driven and you have defined objectives to complete. All cinematic sequences throughout the game are accomplished trough in-game cut scenes which are very well written and directed. The gameplay is simply amazing, maybe like something between No One Lives Forever and Soldier of Fortune (though RTCW is not so bloody baby), it's also a good mix of styles including an interesting missions involving stealth, so you have to complete the entire level without setting off the alarm systems. The weapons are pretty much classical: knife, pistol, MP40 SMG, Mauser sniper rifles, German Panzerfaust, flame-thrower, Tesla cannon, grenades, dynamite and many more :) The flame-thrower rocks (one of the best flame effects) but it's useful only for burning undead. For example if you will try to burn nazi, he won't stop shooting on you. Similarly to Half-Life, the weapons are grouped within several classes for easy access. Three kind of enemies (mutants, undead and nazis) are pretty OK - there is several variations of Nazi soldiers and officers, I bet you will love to "kiss" some sexy nazi chicks with your weapons. Only end-level brainless bosses are kinda lame, but I find perverse pleasure in finding new ways to kill them - hehe the same as old good DOOM :)
The second part of RTCW is multiplayer developed by Nerve which includes eight multiplayer maps with various types of game play including standard objective multi-player, stopwatch mode, and checkpoint multi-player.The player classes are pretty straightforward, the Soldier can carry any of the weapons, the Lieutenant can distribute ammo, the Medic can drop health packs and the Engineer is the brain - he plants (and can defuse) the dynamite and doing things like that. Although the checkpoint mode (where the teams battle for control of flags throughout the map) is similar to capture to flag, the true capture the flag sort of game is missing. However the the quality of gameplay will soon make you forget all about a capture the flag game :) Simply, multiplayer really provides a lot of fun - seems it will be another drug for some gamers.

What is my verdict? RTCW is the game we have all been waiting for, definitely this is one of the hottest games I have played this whole year and one of the best 3D-shooters ever to be released on PC. Although I already finished single player, I want play it again! :) Maybe I'm already addicted! BTW: And don't tell me it's a plain boring shooter with bad graphics, if you don't like it, don't buy it :P For those who want more realism, go for Operation Flashpoint.
