Law & Order Preview (hx) 11:13 PM CEST - Aug,16 2001
For these who don't know, Law & Order is currently television's longest-running
drama series, airing on NBC and in syndication on cable networks TNT and A&E. The
series will enter its twelfth season this fall. It has also launched one successful Law
& Order-branded series, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which airs on both NBC
and USA, and a second, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, airing this fall, also on NBC and
USA. An interactive version of Law and Order marries Legacy's talent for combining
realistic simulation and absorbing gameplay with the compelling characters, gritty
ambience, and story lines so beloved by fans of Law and Order.
Law and Order Interactive is a realistic role-playing game that follows a case through the
guts of the criminal justice system, from initial investigation through completion of the
trial- just as in an episode of Law and Order. As the player, you assume two different
roles. Law and Order Interactive consists of three separate cases. Legacy Interactive's sent us
the lot for the first two stories in the game. The first murder mystery that players will
work on will be the case of a scientist who is conducting cloning experiments. The second
story involves a female investment banker (who specializes in high-tech stock) who is
murdered (you can see where this story line is going). Sounds cool isn't it? The
game seems to be pretty various, because at first, you are the lead detective on the case,
and it's up to you to collect and sort through the evidence, then identify and arrest the
prime suspect. Then, as the Assistant District Attorney assigned to the case, you must
steer it through the treacherous waters of a jury trial and secure a guilty verdict. Of
course, the process may also end before the jury reaches a decision, through plea
bargaining, bungling or misconduct on your part- but that's as it is in real life, and
adds to the challenge that you face, as well as the intense realism of the game
experience.
Law and Order Interactive will run on Windows 95/98/2000 and MAC computers, and will be
available in both DVD and CD-ROM formats. It may also be developed for the XBox. There
will be a significant internet component to the product. Initially, customers of the
CD-ROM will be encouraged to register and visit the website in order to access new game
assets, e.g., additional evidence, that can be incorporated into the different cases. Law
and Order could be pretty cool game, so I'm looking forward for the Winter of 2002. |
