Half-Life: Blue Shift
(hx) 03:51 AM CEST - Jun,19 2001

Half-Life: Blue Shift is a new expansion pack created by Gearbox, the same developers that did the much-coveted Opposing Force. Originally, the game wasn't supposed to come out on the PC at all. Instead, it was intended as a Dreamcast project. When Sega decided to drop production of the DC earlier this year, Sierra announced in April that Blue Shift would appear on the PC...Business doing sometime really weird twists with the games, but such a life - money always rules. In the game you play the role of B. Calhoun, a security guard at the Black Mesa Research Facility. You deal with the monsters, you fight the enemy soldiers, you help the Black Mesa scientists and you make a quick trip to Xen, so no surprising story...Blue Shift features (just hard to find what is really new..) Half-Life HD Pack that automatically upgrade all your Half-Life weapons and characters with new high definition content, 32-Person Multiplayer (Capture the Flag and more) and the game's CD also includes Half-Life: Opposing Force. Blue Shift plays pretty much like the original or its other expansion, you run around, gunning down zombies, aliens, Marines..., you pick up health, armor, ammo, weapons....But there are no new enemies, weapons or, in fact, any new situations in the game :( In addition Blue Shift is very short, provides ONLY 4-5 hours of gameplay :( So, what is the final verdict? I don't think much gamers will pay $20 or $30 for single player episode that looks like a very shortened version of Half-Life. However the game will run well on older systems because of the lower system requirements. Also I think some Half-Life fans will find this game quiet enjoyable anyway :)

Later I found some info for Americans : Sierra is offering a $10 rebate for owners of Opposing Force who want to buy Blue Shift by having them mail in their Blue Shift sales slip and their copy of Opposing Force. If you will buy Blue Shift, Inside the box you receive the following: Game CD in jewel case, A5 Manual, A5 Sierra catalogue and Survey card :P

snd: 3/5 - Same Half-Life sound

I must be stupid or something, but I got stuck on the first level and can't get past the man in the air duct telling me to get to the river, How do I go on, isn.t there a trainer or cheat or something that can help me

Still too small for experimented users, took me 1 day to complete Opposing forces and Blue Shift , for sure Sierra released something that should be free! As written in the review , i agree that its always the same stuff , and the high definition pack is well done , but only change the skins and weapon`s sounds
