Adventure at the Chateau d'Or
(hx) 07:39 PM CEST - May,05 2001

Adventure at the Chateau d'Or is classic adventure game that places you in a role to help a modern-day French princess solve the mysteries behind her new inheritance. On your journey you will explore a magnificent palace, search for hidden treasure and find and wield magic artifacts. You must match wits with the spirit of her uncle, the Duke and you will gather clues from anecdotal tales of the heroes and places that make the incredible city of Paris what it is today. The game features three progressively difficult challenges (easy, medium, hard), photo-realistic 3D graphics, dozens of enigmatic questions about Paris, France, and an original music score. The game allows you to pick the level of difficulty you would like to play at. This is a good feature for novice gamers, experienced players who choose hard can expect a challenge similar to Myst. Puzzles fall into the "matching" category. There are color combinations to figure out, symbols to match with rooms, and button sequences to push. When you see option menu, I bet you will got scared by "history knowledge level" option. But don't worry, you won't have to study French history to win Chateau. However if you are history lover (I am not!), you can experience or read information on gothic architecture during the game :) The game uses QuickTime to present its graphics as a slideshow, movement is linear, so to examine an object to your right, you must take a step forward, then make a 90-degree turn to the right. I felt very constrained by this, despite of photo-realistic the game seems to be almost static :( Really don't expect any action here...So if you are an adventure fan looking for some new adventure game full of palaces and puzzles, this one could be good for you.

snd: 3/5 - True French accent of the princess (but I didn't like her weird voice)
gfx: 3/5 - Photo-realistic 3D graphics, but slideshow style (QuickTime) and movement is strictly linear
playability: 3/5 - Truly unique storyline, plenty of puzzles, difficulty level options
genre: adventure
platform: PC, Mac
release: April 2001
developer: Karma Labs
