Sea Dogs
(hx) 10:13 PM CET - Dec,02 2000

Sea Dogs is a 3D role-playing/action game set in the 17th century. You play a young man named Nicolas Sharp who has always wanted to be a seaman. You've inherited a trading ship and you begin your runs. But because of war between the English and Spanish you are captured and forced from your ship and into slavery by your Spanish captors. Fortunately you manage to escape and sets off to wreak a horrible revenge on anyone sailing with a Spanish flag. You can play as one of four sides (British, French, Spanish, or Pirate) or change allegiances during the game. Gameplay takes place on both land and sea, and on land you will be in one of the games towns (there's 3rd-person view like in Tomb Raider) In the town you can hire the men that will work onboard your ship, buy and sell goods, and buy or repair a ship (you can choose from 20 different ship type including sloops, pinnaces, barques, barks, frigates, galleons, lineships, battleships..etc). At sea, you have the ability to rotate the view 360 degrees all over the ship, also first-person mode is available. Sailing at sea in real time is not necessary, since it would take a painfully long time to go from one island to the next, instead this boring shit you can bring up a map screen and guide the ship from island to island by mouse. I've only missed the sailors (the onboard is damn empty), but it is understandable because would be probably very difficult to model hundreds of men each doing something different in 3D. Sea Dogs features high resolution 3D graphics (3D game engine with either a first or third person view point) including realistic water effects, beautiful landscapes, detailed towns and forts, and effects for weather and day and night, wind and weather effects effect how your ship sails and can leave you sitting dead in the water or crashing into shallow shoals. The visuals in the game are awesome, the textures are all very well done and realistic. The music is done by Russian composer Yury Poteenko, conducted by A.A. Vedernikov, and performed by Philharmonic Russian Orchestra out of Moscow (check the mp3 sample (1MB). Sea Dogs is very attractive made pirate game!
