Squad Leader (hx) 11:23 PM CET - Oct,29 2000
Well first a bit of history. Squad Leader was originally published in 1977 as a two-player board game using printed mapboards and counters to simulate World War II squad-level combat. Players could command either United States, German or Russian forces. Well, Hasbro Interactive's Squad Leader is a squad level, turn-based tactical combat that uses an isometric view. Unlike the Squad Leader boardgames, the computer game has you in charge of individual soldiers (vehicles may be present, but they are definitely secondary). In the game you are able to choose squads from over than a hundred unique characters and lead twelve of them at a time through campaigns in Normandy, Arnhem, and the Battle of the Bulge (each campaigns includes 10 custom missions and assorted random operations). The campaign game can be played as the Germans, British, or Americans, and a scenario editor is included so that players can create their own missions. Squad Leader also features easy to follow "boot camp" style tutorials, upgradeable squad strength, 300 soldier biographies with individual storylines and options and dozens of armored carriers, artillery, transport vehicles and other equipment. The view of the action is the traditional "isometric," with the game running at a resolution of 800x600. Graphics aren't much good but am sure that hardcore gamers will say that game graphics are excellent and realistic :)
