Heavy Metal: FAKK2 (hx) 09:02 PM CEST - Aug,05 2000
Heavy Metal: FAKK2 is a 3rd third-person adventure/action game that uses a heavily modified version of id Software's Quake III Arena engine (its the first Quake 3 engine game other than Quake 3 itself). FAKK2 was strongly influenced by other 3rd-person action games such as Tomb Raider, Heretic II and Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda, in that main character is capable of many different movements besides just running, jumping and shooting. Playing as Julie, modeled after 1993 Penthouse Pet of the Year Julie Strain, you explore a variety of landscapes in a futuristic and a wilderness setting, battling furious creatures while solving non-insidious puzzles. The game goal is simple, you (as Julie) must fight against the invaders and save the planet. FAKK2 looks absolutely incredible, the game shows the strength of id software's Quake 3 engine and builds upon it, with some excellent use of colored lighting and specularity effects. Only rendition of human beings, except the Julia model, doesn't look much good, the humans in FAKK2 are very weird. But the monster modeling and animation is quite good, and the weapons are more than comfortable. Both FAKK2's soundtrack(a pulsuting hard rock) and sound effects are impressive, also the weapons sounds pretty cool. First time when I met "Lord Tyler", probably best monster what I ever seen, I badly want to turn up my hi-fi to maximum volume though was late night. FAKK2 is very fun and playable game, though kinda short (gameplay takes over 7-8 hours), single-player only and too much linear so there's not a lot of replay value. At any rate FAKK2 is very well done game(looks to be bug-free unlike previous Ritual's Sin), anyone who looking for a good single player game won't disapointed. snd: 5/5 - hard rock soundtrack, impressive sound effects gfx: 4/5 -
cool enemies, gorgeous textures but human models looks ridiculous playability: 3/5 -
great levels, non-insidious puzzles, but game is too short and ends without a sense of completion
