Warlords: Battlecry (hx) 04:33 PM CEST - Jul,06 2000
Warlords Battlecry isn't a sequel to Warlords series, because this expected sequel titled Warlords IV will be out in 2001. WB is an interesting mix RTS combined with hero-based RPG. Unlike other RTS games where players command armies remains in anonymity, WB puts players in the role of an individual hero who through campaigns and scenarios evolves into a mighty commander of armies. If you lose your hero so you lose the battle.
The story is simple. The residents of the Isle of Dawn are threatened. Their fate rests in your hands. You must destroy the Two Tears, ancient artifacts of incredible power. The quest can be completed in one of two ways - along the path of Good or the path of Evil.
The game has 9 main races: Humans, Dwarves, Orcs, Minotaurs, Undead, High Elf, Dark Elf, Wood Elf and Barbarian. Certainly each race has specific strengths,
weaknesses, attributes. There are also over 80 spells and the campaign structure allows you to bisect after the first few chapters and follow two entirely different paths - good or evil. There are 4 resources : gold, iron, stone and diamonds and all are mined. Fortunately you don't need to care much because resource collection is completely automated. Although graphics are kinda obsolescent, I can say that both graphics and music are fitting for this game, the units are beautifully drawn and full of character. WB shows that great games can still be done without a 3D engine.
