Duke Nukem Forever was a huge disappointment for a lot of Duke Nukem fans. However, there was a version that impressed everyone back in 2001. That version of Duke Nukem Forever was powered by Unreal Engine and was meant to be a more serious/dark game. And according to Frederik Schreiber, VP at 3DRealms, that version is

You've been sitting on that game for so long, had it 90% complete game and yet, you decided to sell out.
What's this nonsense about wanting to release it now?
Why didn't you release it when you had the chance?
Most games released are 70-75% complete at the time of release and only very few make it to 100%.
You fucked up, you live with that; no need to poison people's mind with what may have been.

they really should have just released it back then... nearer the time when the graphics wouldn't have been regarded as ancient

still if people can like doom still why not... polish it upto the level of the brutaldoom mod and i'm sure some will buy it for a low low price

You both, naturally, miss the meat of this claim. Randy Pitchford is the reason and remains the reason. Hes a dick that fucked over Duke Forever and remains the dick even today.

If you recall it was Randy Pitchford sitting there going, oh this is the best Duke Nukem ever.. blah blah blah. Randy imo, dicked over 3D Realms and gave them an ultimatum to release under his conditions.. Well we all saw DNF sucked shit.

I don't have a lot of respect for 3D Realms myself, but in terms of DNF from what I read and heard.. it had little to do with 3D Realms, just Pitchford dictatorship/politics. And it still continues on...
