I'm not one to feel strongly about product brands but I've began to absolutely hate nvidia at this point.

Why ? Because they have a better proprietary driver for Linux which makes possible for people wrapping DX11 calls to OpenGL ?
Doesn't seem a bad thing.

If the developer wanted to support Linux, OSX and Windows from the start should have simply used OpenGL for all the above and be done with it, choosing the right set of features supported everywhere.

So talk to Creative Assembly about their choices, talk to AMD about their OpenGL drivers and thanks nVidia and Feral for making possible to port the game for at least some people on Linux without an improbable engine rewrite.

Nvidia has always had good support on Linux. ATI/AMD shameful as is Intel.

No, because they use proprietary technologies and force developers to pay for those technologies if they want to optimize for non nvidia hardware. Because they introduce unnecessary amounts tessellation to sabotage amd performance while, also, sabotaging performance for their own consumers at a lower level. And now they've gone so far as to have developers create games that only work with their hardware.

It's been long known that Nvidia runs better on Linux. Nvidia period is a better video card than ATI/AMD. You can cry and make excuses but it changes nothing. Games have been made for Nvidia for ages.

Now we are back talking about the developer, good.

If the developer wanted to support Linux, OSX and Windows from the start should have simply used OpenGL for all the above and be done with it, choosing the right set of features supported everywhere.

Again, talk to the developer, not nVidia.

About having some hypothetical kind of agreement with a developer to write a game for a single vendor, or even a specific graphic card, what's wrong with that ? Doesn't run on your system ? So ? Does the developer owe something to you ? If he's not interested in your money he can do as he please.

If someone wants to write software running on nVidia only, on Linux only, on Windows only, or on DOS only he can do it without asking for your approval.

Again, what's the problem you have with all this ?
