This shines a light on one of the core issues with using DRM in the first place - its functionality is dependent on very narrow parameters sometimes and it makes the actual media useless in an artificial way even if it actually is innately compatible.
Same thing with DRM books - buying DRM books today, you have absolutely no guarantee you can read them again a decade or two from now, whereas a standard format like XML, HTML or even plain ASCII will be guaranteed readable for the foreseeable future.
DRM is not about preventing copyright violations and it never has been. It's about profit maximization and getting people to buy something repeatedly if at all possible. DRM has got to go. |
