o's classic platformer, something that Carmack admitted after all these years.

I don't think he's a great programmer.
He just programmed the right thing at the right time - which did not happen ever again...

Hey John, I think one of your rockets is on fire... not in a good way.

Sadly after the Rage fiasco I lost respect to John. The last 10 years it has been more talking and little-to-none World Changing Work.

How do you know it's the man and not the company behind the man? Easy to point the finger at the man. He left the company and likely for the reason he was not able to do things as he wanted. I've heard this through many channels. I pretty much surmised he would leave after iD was taken over. I got a lot of respect for the guy I have little respect for the industry in general. It's been nothing but money hungry corporations looking to fleece people for this and that with very little in return. Was Wolfenstein really any good? No, it actually sucks. Lack of MP is the mega killer for the game too. What's DOOM going to be like? probably will suck. Bethesda was never really good at FPS games to begin with. They took iD to steal their technologies and that was it. I too was let down with Rage but do I blame Carmack for it? No not really I blame the company and other big-wigs that probably influenced decisions.

Carmack has always been about old-school shooters and iD was trying to move away from it. Now with Bethesda, I'm sure they've pushed through their wants ahead of anyone in iD.

If I am the leader of something and they don't let me do what I want, I leave. Immediately. I don't wait.
He has decided to stay and give his name to Rage.
So, yes, he is to blame.

Also, it seems you don't have your facts right.
Did you read this? Let me quote the once sentence you need to find:
Quote:
When it became clear that I wasn't going to have the opportunity to do any work on VR ... I decided to not renew my contract.

Left because it was taken over? lol
Carmack and old-school shooters? lol
He's in a different boat altogether - thank God! He can't cause more any more damage.

The problem with Wolfenstein is not the lack of multiplayer. On the contrary, I think it would look really stupid considering the game's history and background.
