Nvidia just announced and demonstrated thier new handheld console running Android, code named Nvidia Shield.

Streaming from the desktop PC is a bit narrow at the moment as laid out by the specifications. As noted I would suspect this to broaden, actually quite a lot, as the product gets closer to hitting the store shelves which is expected in Q2'13.

It seems as though the screen equipped on the Shield will be very nice for a native Shield experience as well. Tegra's image quality has always been impressive as well.

| there are already 2 apps for android and one (I think) for iOS that can stream everything, support gamepad or on screen touch controls etc. and they are free. Why the hell would I pay nVidia twice for that tegra that I already HAVE in my android phone? |

principle is the same...only difference is that this nv product is integrated into gamepad. I also have HDMI output on my HTC Sensation  |

I have fun with my nvidia tegra 3 asus transformer pad tf300t 32gb. It can play games on the tegra zone with a ps3 controller-via Bluetooth, so I can see where this came from. Couple the fact I can output this hdmi to my large screen tv. Sony has had similar gaming with the vita and or psp I believe? It amazes me how slow it takes for people to go the "obvious route" in next gen gaming. 4k screens are useless in most parts of Europe , seeing as idiots in the uk, for eg. Stream low quality films and or watch freeview tv in SD. Something like 80% of HD tvs were used to watch standard broadcasts. Bearing in mind, that uk air bandwidth can't even support 1920x1080. Sky, virgin and freesat broadcast in 720p and upscale to 1080. Watching blu ray or playing PC games is the only way to utilise HD. I certainly don't plan on spending the price of a car on a tv just for games!
As a side note; don't expect a pc gaming experience with this, just like the steam box. It will be a very selective amount of titles and is no way going to be revolutionary. A pc console if you will.. |
