No doubt a great card, but $699 isn't $400 or whatever an R9 290 (not-X) will wind up at, and the R9 will be competitive if somewhat slower.

The R9 290X has some real competition though, but still at a $100+ premium vs the $550 or so of the 290X:es.

The prices stink, but when you look at the professional quadro lineup using the same fking silicon and identical pcb layout, the prices for these seem almost cheap compared to that whole nuther level of extreme rip off, where the only real difference is the drivers for the pro version cards are unlocked.

Example GTX690 is faster then the K5000 and the difference is around ~$1000 just to have production apps truly utilize the cards hardware.

I will have to agree with Locro.

A 290 non X, with a third parfy cooler (WF3, TF2 etc) and some OC, say to 1050Mhz, will be able to deliver, Titan/290X performance with 300$ less. It's a nobrainer for people on a budget.
