I hope MS won't die. Sure, they have hickups and stuff, but they got Windows XP and Windows 7 right, even earlier Office versions were usable.
They just need to backtrack (that is, throw out everything that is even remotely relevant to Windows 8 ) and start development from Windows 7 again - and something similar with Office.

Think about it. If MS died, we would have Android, iOS, and Linux. The first two are far too easy to hack, while the latter is something I'd have a hard time teaching to people.

I don't give a damn about Balmer though as he did not do any good and he's going to retire anyway. He would do well spending his fortune to set things right. People near the end tend to do that as they would not want to go down in history like the someone who screwed something up for the whole world and did not even try fixing it... Look at Gill Bates. He's at least trying...

are you fking dumb? Billg the criminal his as eugenicists piece of shit, future generations if they aren't dead or deformed (due to nuclear radiation being the worst fking thing the climate can handle and he fully backs it) will look back at scum like him as the altruistic masquerading criminal shitbag that he is.

And MS? fuk em ...devices and services? couldn't give a shit, ms hardware is cheap crap and there services are infested with spyware and backdoors for snivelling government salaried parasite drone creeps.

There actual software is on the fast track to dumb downed garbage if they actually have software developers and designers worth shit, they are fking braindead koolaiders.

@Koogle: If you where born a little less close to a nucelar plant it might would have been funny to answer you.

@Csimbi: I donĀ“t think they will overhaul old versions, cause that would not bring them back the mass of people they already lost to Apple and/or Android. Hopefully they will follow their usual path of "one bad, one good" and the next operating system will be good again like XP and 7 had been. They must refresh the nerdy-aspects of windows and build an extention with the easy-to-use and mobility aspects. Windows is a working and gaming plattform and in need of a mobility-extention. Making Win8 a somehow mobile OS was the mistake. They need an extention, not a whole new system. After all, the PC is the plattform/enviroment where all else software is beeing build. So they should have the tools for it. What the need is a figure at the frontseat that can see path, not just storm into anything.

@WilderWein
Perhaps, yes. I really don't care about the means as long as the next iteration delivers.

Imaging where they would be without Balmer.
We know where they went with him. He achieved far less with far more resources...

if koogle was a developer, does anyone think it would be hilarious reading his terms of service?

It would be something like "Fuk you for stealing my shit" and crash even though you paid for it.
