A canary will perch on top of the the Message Board outside of the Town Hall if you have an unread message there.

Duplicate items
Note: This requires an online connection and access to a friend's town for assistance. Go to your friend's town with the item to be cloned in your pockets. Drop the item to be cloned on the ground, then immediately pick it back up. Have your friend save the game session. Drop the same item again. Go to the gate and ask to go home. When Copper (the dog on the right) says "Well then " reset your Wii or press "Home" and exit the game. Restart the game and check your pockets. The item should be there and also be duplicated on the ground in your friend's town. Go back to your friend's town and collect the other item, or leave it for your friend.
