Graphics cards pricing beginning to decline - tech
(hx) 06:14 PM CEST - Jun,21 2021
In their regular updates on the GPU market situation in Europe, 3DCenter now reports on a major reduction of GeForce RTX graphics card pricing and better availability. While AMD graphics cards see neither a price reduction nor better availability month-to-month, there is a major shift in GeForce RTX pricing, according to 3DCenter’s report. On average GeForce RTX graphics cards are still 91% more expensive than MSRP, but that’s already a 113% difference month to month when GeForce cards pricing has skyrocketed to 304%. Last month NVIDIA has reduced the shipment of GPUs significantly as the company was shifting its production to the Lite Hash Rate series, this has led to a large backlog of orders, which are now progressively being reduced as LHR models being to ship to customers. GPU pricing is not expected to drop as quickly as it rose in May, mainly because retailers have ordered the cards at higher prices and now they are reluctant to sell at a loss. However, at some point distributors will lower their pricing (which is way above MSRP) will which then allows retailers to offer discounts and still make a profit. An introduction of GeForce RTX 30 Ti and RTX 30 LHR series in combination with the recent ban on cryptomining in China has been contributed to the price drop. Meanwhile, AMD have not released any desktop graphics cards in the last two months, but they have added the mobile RX 6000M series to their lineup which are too based on RDNA2 GPUs.

They need to drop to 1/4th or so before I'd even consider buying one.
And then, I would wait for a 50% discount.

just bought the ASUS ROG STRIX 3080 Ti for 2153€, which has the MRSP of 1999€ (ofc 1:1 translated 1999$). That doesn't really fit those percentages?

You payed ~70% more than 3080 for ~8% faster card. I wonder do you also buy cans of clean air?!

I've been looking for one since January. I don't want to be holding off for another year just to get it 1/3 cheaper. I guess thats the price of it if I don't want to be waiting ...

gx-x(02:12 PM CEST - Jun,22 2021 )
the card came out "yesterday" not in January. Maybe you were searching for 3080, but didn't search well enough, it doesn't matter really.
I hope you do know that in a year you won't get over $400 for it. If even that.

KuBr0(03:06 PM CEST - Jun,22 2021 )
Yes, I was looking for the ASUS ROG STRIX 3080 (yes, this very specific model, because it goes nicely with the ASUS ROG STRIX HERO mobo that I was looking for), but unfortunately couldn't find offers anywhere. I've been mainly looking at the offers on caseking.de, one of the biggest retailers in Germany.

I'm not planning on selling the GPU anytime soon and if I get rid of it one day, I 'll probably just gift it as I did all my previous PC equipment.

gx-x(04:05 PM CEST - Jun,22 2021 )
meanwhile, you could have gotten one off of ebay anytime. What I mean is, retailers and etailers never had them at normal price anyway, 99% of cards were sold by scalpers on ebay. Now you got scalped by caseking? just before the massive price drop. No wonder you found them online.

the ASUS ROG STRIX 3080? I really doubt it. When I've been looking for it, scalpers were asking way over 2k+ for it on ebay, stockx or amazon, thats why I strictly chose to buy it at a retailer. I guess that worked out? Paid 2k and got the Ti which is almost 10% faster, + revised chip. No other retailer in EU has the ROG STRIX Ti as cheap as they had it.

every reviewer out there thinks it's meh card (at where it's MSRP is), you should get either 3080 or 3090 and avoid 3080Ti since it's just a rip off from nVidia.

Personally, I go for MSI gamingX cards, I don't like Asus except for sound cards. For over $2000 I go 2 weeks on Varadero, Cuba 5* AI.

its 3% slower in benchmarks than the 3090. Why would I avoid it and choose the 3090 which goes for +1k € and has twice the memory? 12GB of dedicated video memory is more than enough for me ...

I always liked the ASUS mobos and GPUs and always avoided MSI since one incident :/ Nothing wrong with MSI components. Btw. the MSI 3080 Ti still sitting there:

https://www.caseking.de/msi-geforce-rtx-3080-ti-gaming-x-trio-12g-12288-mb-gddr6x-gcmc-281.html

Its even 20€ more expensive then mine :D lol

And btw. to your previous comment where you said that its no wonder that I got it, it actually is quite a little miracle. I got this lucky only because I been refreshing the product listing every 10 minutes after they have created it and was waiting for them to put the stock online. 1000+ 3080 Ti cards from various manufacturers sold out within 5 minutes ...

And I'm not really the type for beaches. I rather spend my vacation with my dog at home, going for long walks and playing games until late night.

gx-x(05:13 PM CEST - Jun,22 2021 )
for that amount of money, it's been available on ebay, still is, it's a new card.

3090 was at ~2500 at one point, and since CPU's are bottle necking most of these cards, 3080 included, you can't really tell how much faster it is.
Since you mentioned ~1000 US$ more, why didn't you go for 3080 then? It's almost a $1000 less...

I guess you're right, where does one draw a line? Well the 3080 is as expensive as the Ti, so why would i buy it then when its 10% slower and I have a full warranty straight from a reliable retailer? Actually buying it off a scalper IS what is wrong with todays gaming, right Tom?

Tom>
You're what's wrong with gaming today.

I was first aiming for the ASUS ROG STRIX 3090, a bit after the shortage started. Originally, before the price spiked, it was 2100€ in November 2020. Afterwards, it started to get listed for crazy prices like 3200€ and 3400€ by retailers. I couldn't really afford that, so settled with the 3080, but couldn't get it anywhere aside scalpers, so decided to hold off, and then the Ti came along, for 2200€. Pretty convenient right? After almost 6 fcking months ...

Thanks :) I hope it makes my point clear why I decided to overpay the GPU when I didn't own a gaming rig for almost 6 months, while I always had one since I was like 11 yo

Maybe the price is the same on caseking, it's not the same on:
nVidia website
ebay
other black market palces

3080 is ~1200 USD, and 3080Ti is over 2000 USD. Where do you draw the line? I draw it at $500. I will get 3xxx or AMD 6xxx when they get there.

And if you think you got a reliable warranty, think again. If they have no more stock, how will they fulfill the warranty? They can give you money back, maybe...It's not up to them, especially not now.
Ones on the ebay also have warranty, just send them to your nVidia rep office. Or Asus rep office and so on.

keep in mind how bad a move you made. ETH fell from $2700 to $1800 in a day. Your card will be, at your store, less than a 1000 eur in a week.
that 3090 for 2K eur was a steal last year, it was a full year of gaming, sell it a month ago for 3000, get 3080 for a 1000.
Oh yea, you could have also mined over a $1000 with it in a year ;)

KuBr0(09:36 PM CEST - Jun,22 2021 )
you're mixing up MRSPs, ones that have been set long before the shortage and the ones set after. No card manufacturer is selling their 3080 for 1200$ currently, hell not even 1400$. In €, the price is set to around 1800€ for the ASUS ROG STRIX 3080.

If they can't replace it within a few weeks its ok, but they would surely give me my money back, that you can bet on. And yes, it is up to them. Who do you think it would be up to? ASUS, or MSI? LOL ... + Its a German big trusted retailer and I have paid through PP.

Please feel free to let me know in a week, or you know what, make it a month, and send me the link where they are going to sell the 3080 Ti for 1000€ :D Don't be silly xD

gx-x(09:48 PM CEST - Jun,22 2021 )
ok man, look, I cant talk to you. Imagine if you were of drinking age at least and talking to a 10 year old. That's how this exchange with you feels to me.
You are just way too inexperienced in this field and I just don't have the time for this with you.

You lack basic information.

edit: I mean, "MRSP's" means nothing...at least in the IT world.

KuBr0(10:01 PM CEST - Jun,22 2021 )
so now you are questioning the definition of MRSP? Get out of here :DDD

from your point of view, I lack basic information. From my point of view, you just lack facts and twist shit around just as you like it. I guess we can end the discussion here, and dont forget to get back here in a month to show me that 3080 Ti offer for 1000€ :DDD I'll be waiting

edit: I thought that MRSP actually means something in the IT world, and doesn't mean anything in view of capitalistic markets. But well, I guess I know shit ...

Csimbi(10:42 AM CEST - Jun,23 2021 )
MSRP is what it is: Manufacturer's recommended price tag.
While it's largely meaningless, it can be used as a guide because it does not change usually.

Peeps, leave KuBr0 alone.
He wanted it, he had the money to do it, so he went and did it.
You already said he paid too much, that he should have waited.
I think he sort of knew that, too but did not want to wait, so, just leave it.
Go AMD or keep drooling over his purchase.

here we are, a month later, and my RTX 3080 Ti still goes for the same price of 2153€ from one of the biggest retailers in EU:

https://www.caseking.de/detail/index/sArticle/58781

turns out, they were one of the first to receive the new batch of GPUs that came with the price-drop that everyone is talking about right now, weeks later. Pretty dope

It dropped exactly 7,5%, not 10%+ (163€ cheaper than 2153€). Thats literally nothing compared to the drop that gx-x was announcing here a month ago. According to him, now, it just postpones things a bit :D

I don't think that the ROG STRIX 3080 Ti is going to get below 1500€ until they release the 4080 next autumn, but lets wait it out and see ...

Old man with his old news. You are lagging behind pops:

https://www.techspot.com/amp/news/90515-graphics-card-prices-no-longer-falling.html

Btw. I thought you abandoned this discussion for good?

FACT - I got my card already with the new price refresh, doesn't matter its 10% more expensive than the lowest offer now. Those who have lowest offers now didn't have stock at the time when I was buying, which was more than a month ago.

Still nowhere close to what you were predicting = your predictions are shit, gotta keep that in mind going into the future

heretic>

Thats the price after the refresh that just kicked in June/July, but I agree, still way too high. I'm from Slovakia, but to not have to wait for the card way too long, I ordered from Germany. Alza still doesn't even have the model that I wanted and according to a friend who is working for them, they won't even have it until September or even October.

yes, sorry pops, but you're the fullest of shit over here in these forums :D Didn't want to break it down to you, but you called for it.

All of my income is taxed and earned legally, but yea, I make more than like 98% of all the people with official income over here. Can't complain ...

gx-x(08:13 PM CEST - Jul,23 2021 )
your card was never going to be $1K MSRP is way higher than that. I never said that it will hit any price, you are making shit up.
Crypto and low supply create a hole in the market for regular people so the prices go way way up.
That's all that there is to it. This is not the first crypto wave, this is the THIRD one. They all end up the same: prices go back to MSRP or close, and used cards market gets flooded with cards 2 even 3 times lower than MSRP (yes, they have been mining but get two for $300 )

And now, for the first time, I am out of this convo.
